Public meeting scheduled to discuss proposed improvements to the Marathon County WW bridge

For release: February 27, 2017

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public involvement meeting to discuss the proposed bridge deck replacement on the County WW bridge over the Wisconsin River, located in the village of Brokaw (Marathon County).

The meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday, March 6, 2017, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Brokaw Village Hall, 218 South Second Street, Brokaw. A brief presentation is scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. After the presentation, the meeting will follow an open house format.

The existing structure is a steel deck girder bridge, which was constructed in 1967. The bridge is in good structural condition, but the concrete bridge deck is showing signs of deterioration. To maximize the service life of the bridge, the bridge deck needs to be replaced.

The objective of the March 6 meeting is to obtain public input on the identified needs, proposed improvements and answer questions about plans for traffic management during construction. The Brokaw village hall is handicapped accessible. Aids such as language translation and signing will be made available if requested at least one week prior to the meeting. Citizens who are deaf or hard of hearing, and require an interpreter, may request one by contacting Kristin McHugh at least three working days prior to the meeting.

WisDOT plans to keep the bridge open to one lane during construction. However, some short-term full closures will be necessary when crews are pouring concrete. The project is currently scheduled to take place in 2019.
