Governor Walker approves $650,000 for an improvement project at Sheboygan County Memorial Airport

Date sent: March 8, 2017

Governor Scott Walker has approved $650,000 in funding to rehabilitate the primary runway at the Sheboygan County Memorial Airport.

Kim Kaarto, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Bureau of Aeronautics, says the project will rehabilitate sections of pavement that have deteriorated on Runway 4/22. The internal 5400 feet of runway pavement was constructed in 1992 and is in need of repair work. Joint sealer and concrete panels will be removed and replaced. A portion of this work started in the fall. The remaining work will be completed in the spring of 2017.

Funds from the state, Sheboygan County and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be used for this project.

Funding Breakdown

  • State = $32,500
  • Sheboygan County = $32,500
  • FAA = $585,000

Airport improvement projects are administered through the WisDOT Bureau of Aeronautics. Sheboygan County Memorial Airport is one of 97 facilities included in the Wisconsin State Airport System Plan, which makes it eligible for state and federal funding.
