Public meeting scheduled to discuss Business 51 reconstruction in Plover, Whiting

The meeting will focus on the section between Hickory Drive and Minnesota Avenue

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public meeting to discuss the planned reconstruction of Business 51 between Hickory Drive and Minnesota Avenue in the villages of Plover and Whiting.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Whiting Municipal Center, 3600 Water Street, Stevens Point. A brief presentation will begin at 5:15 p.m. 

Construction on this segment of Business 51 is currently scheduled to begin in July 2018, with completion in November 2019. Improvements include:

  • Four-lane, divided urban roadway
  • Wider travel lanes
  • Dedicated turn lanes 
  • Bike lanes 
  • New 6-foot sidewalks 
  • Raised center median

The objective of the May 10 meeting is to update property owners on the current status of the project, and discuss expected traffic impacts during construction. Additional information about the project can be obtained via the project website.
