Release date: May 22, 2017
(Fond du Lac County) As part of his efforts to create jobs and make sure Wisconsin is open for business, Governor Scott Walker recently approved $4.7 million to improve 5 miles of WIS 44 from Douglas Street in the city of Ripon to the Fond du Lac/Winnebago County line. The project begins Tuesday, May 30, and is expected to finish in fall 2017. WIS 44 will be closed to through traffic during construction.
Michaels Corporation of Brownsville, Wis. is the prime contractor.
The work under this project includes removing and replacing WIS 44 pavement and adding passing lanes to northbound WIS 44 from Seelig Way to Page Road, and southbound WIS 44 from Fletcher Road to just past Springbrook Road. Other work includes installing traffic signals at WIS 44/Douglas Street, realigning intersections, adding centerline and shoulder rumble strips, widening shoulders, and improving drainage where possible.
WIS 44 will be closed to through traffic. Local access will be maintained. WIS 44 detour route will follow WIS 23 to County M to WIS 44.
Project benefits include improved safety and better driving surface for motorists. New passing lanes and realigned intersections will reduce travel time and increase safety. Improved lines of sight, rumble strips, and wider shoulders will all contribute to increased highway safety.
