DMV driver manual available in eBook format

Rules of the road now accessible on phones, tablets and computers

Released: June 7, 2017

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Motorists' Handbook is available online as an eBook in PDF, EPUB and MOBI formats, which can be read on a desktop computer or handheld device. EPUB eBooks automatically adjust to fit your screen and allow you to change display options like the font size, number of columns and more. These online manuals have the most up-to-date information and reflect the latest changes in state and federal regulation.

"We are excited to offer the Motorists' Handbook in a more efficient format," said WisDOT Secretary Dave Ross.

While some paper copies of manuals and forms are still available upon request, offering a green alternative to the paper versions is expected to save money. The Motorists' Handbook is available online as an eBook in PDF, EPUB and MOBI formats. The Commercial Driver's Manual, which outlines the requirements and practices for safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle with Class A, B or C driver license, is also available in digital formats. A complete list of driver handbooks, publications and forms and their links are available online.

"We're reaching a new generation," said Debbie Kraemer, Driver Training and Records Unit supervisor. "We see younger drivers accessing the world through their phones. It's now even easier to find answers to driving questions, like who has the right of way or how to park on a hill. A motorist's phone or tablet is a convenient tool to find these answers but never while operating a vehicle."
