Public meeting scheduled for US 151 improvements in Manitowoc County

​Proposed project scope, schedule and traffic impacts to be discussed

(Manitowoc County) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region announces a public involvement meeting to discuss a proposed resurfacing and improvement project on 8.5 miles of US 151 from the village of Valders to the I-43/US 151 interchange in the city of Manitowoc.

  • When: Wednesday, June 14, 5 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Where: Valders Community Center, 420 N Liberty Street, Valders
    • A brief presentation will be provided at 5:15 p.m., followed by an open-house format

The last rehabilitation of the existing pavement was in 1997, and the roadway is showing signs of deterioration. The purpose of this project is to extend the service life of US 151 by resurfacing the existing pavement surface using cold in-place recycling. Other proposed work includes culvert replacement, intersection safety improvements, shoulder reconstruction and beam guard replacement. Construction is scheduled for 2020, but could begin as early as 2018. Work is expected to be completed under traffic and without a detour.

The purpose of this public involvement meeting is to obtain public comment and project feedback to assist WisDOT in further development and design refinement. Project displays and exhibits will be available for public viewing, and project staff will be on hand to answer questions.
