I-90 overhead bridge work begins Wednesday; La Crosse, Monroe County

August 1, 2017

Work is scheduled to begin Wednesday on three local road bridges over the I-90 in La Crosse and Monroe County.

  • Wolf Road, located off County B west of WIS 162, will be open to a single lane of traffic with a stop condition at both sides of the bridge.
  • Ideal Road, the south extension of Water Street going south from Sparta, will remain open with traffic signals.
  • The WIS 71 bridge will remain open with traffic signals.

Motorists are urged to slow down and be aware of construction workers and vehicles in the area. The posted speed limits will be remain. Flagging operations may interrupt travel and the roadways could be unpaved at times and very narrow until the bridge work is completed.

The project includes pavement replacement, a concrete bridge overlay for all 3 bridges, surface drains, new guardrail (on Wolf and Ideal) and new signage.  The work is expected to be completed by mid-October. Project cost is estimated at $800,000. The prime contractor is Michels Construction, Inc. of Brownsville, WI.
