Public involvement meeting scheduled for WIS 23/County K intersection in Fond du Lac County

Proposed interim project to address safety issues at intersection

April 4, 2016

(Fond du Lac) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region is announcing a public involvement meeting to discuss proposed interim safety improvements to the intersection of WIS 23 and County Road K in the city of Fond du Lac. The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the UW-Fond du Lac, University Commons Rooms UC 113 and 114, 400 University Drive in Fond du Lac.  There will be a short presentation at 5:15 p.m., followed by an open-house format. WisDOT, Fond du Lac County, and Fond du Lac City staff will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis and obtain your input.

Interim WIS 23/County K intersection modifications are needed to improve safety and traffic operations until an overpass can be constructed as part of the overall WIS 23 expansion project. Construction is planned for fall of 2016.

The proposed interim project involves:

  • Installation of slotted, left turn lanes in the median of WIS 23 at the intersection with County K
  • Installation of right turn islands on County K
  • Removal of the median crossover immediately to the west of the intersection
  • The improvements will prohibit left turns and through movements from County K until an overpass can be constructed.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting to review and discuss the proposed project. We also ask that citizens please share any questions, comments, or concerns about the proposed safety improvements. WisDOT also seeks any information related to historic buildings and structures, archaeological sites, septic systems, drain tiles, or drainage problems in the project area.
