July 15, 2016

(Sheboygan County) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region office is announcing a public involvement meeting for a Freeway Designation and Corridor Preservation Study on WIS 23 in Sheboygan County. The study limits are between County P west of the city of Plymouth and WIS 32 in the city of Sheboygan Falls.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Riverview Middle School cafeteria, 300 Riverview Circle, Plymouth. There will be a brief presentation at 5:15 p.m. The reminder of the meeting will follow an open-house format.

The WIS 23 study was initiated in 2007. Its purpose is to develop a long-range plan for WIS 23 to preserve safety, mobility and access into the future. This study will create an official map of the corridor showing proposed right-of-way needs for the the location of future overpasses and interchanges. The study’s results will allow the local communities, local businesses, and property owners to make informed land use decisions compatible with the proposed improvement plans. No construction is planned at this time.

Objectives of this public involvement meeting include:

  • Present alternatives recommended for the environmental report.
  • Review elements of the study that have been updated/changed since the last public meeting.
  • Outline the official mapping process and what it means to property owners and the local community.
  • Discuss upcoming study schedule and activities.
  • Obtain input from WIS 23 corridor property owners, local businesses and residents and the traveling public.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input and ask questions concerning this study. Maps, exhibits and displays will be available for public review. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the study on an individual basis.
