A vital link.
Effective and reliable communication systems are critical for
responding to emergencies as well as routine law enforcement
actions. In the early days of the State Patrol, officers had no
communications equipment in their vehicles. Instead, they listened
to an assigned radio station, which broadcast an alert during an
emergency. After locating the closest phone, officers then would
call their headquarters for instructions. Today, officers have voice
and data communications equipment for keeping in constant contact
with law enforcement dispatchers at the seven State Patrol posts
around the state.
