Safety inspections and enforcement of weight limits for commercial motor vehicles have always been major responsibilities for the agency since its inception. State Patrol inspectors through the years have been in the forefront of making large trucks safer on Wisconsin highways and protecting roadway infrastructure from overweight vehicles. They were even called on to weigh a semi tractor-trailer unit transporting the "World’s Biggest Block of Cheese" from Wisconsin to the New York World's Fair in 1964.
