Commercial Driver License (CDL) examiners by county

Third party testing—The following testing companies may be contacted regarding CDL skills tests.

The maximum fee that a third party examiner may charge for a CDL skills test follows new requirements resulting from Wisconsin’s implementation of the federal revisions to the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1986. The fee structure is:

  • Full skills test (Vehicle Inspection, Basic Control Skills and Road Test) when successfully completed at one time = $150
  • Vehicle Inspection only = $50
  • Basic Control Skills only = $50
  • Road Test only = $50
  • Abbreviated School Bus Skills Test = $50
  • Lift Airbrake restriction (Vehicle Inspection required) = $50
  • Lift Manual Transmission restriction (Road Test required) = $50

  • Lift Tractor Trailer restriction (Vehicle Inspection, Basic Control Skills and Road Test required) = $150

A third party examiner may choose to charge less than these fees. You may pay fees by cash, check or credit card. A service fee may apply for payment by credit card.

  • No Show Fee – collected when a driver fails to appear for a scheduled appointment and fails to notify examiner in advance of cancelling scheduled test. No Show Fees include those charged per test scheduled for Vehicle Inspection ($15), Basic Control Skills ($15) and/or Road Test ($15). If all three tests were scheduled, for example, No Show Fees = $45.
  • An additional fee may be charged if the third party examiner provides the use of a vehicle. Contact the specific examiner for details.
  • Licensed commercial drivers are subject to retesting by Wisconsin DMV and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration CDL Examiners.
  • A third party examiner may charge federal IRS mileage (2013: 56.5 cents/mile) for miles traveled to and from the test routes that exceed a 25 mile radius from the tester’s headquarters.​
