Surface Transportation Program - Rural

The Surface Transportation Program - Rural (STP-R) allocates federal funds to complete a variety of improvements to rural highways (primarily county highways).

The objective of the STP-R is to improve federal-aid-eligible highways outside of urban areas. Projects must meet federal and state requirements. Communities are eligible for funding on roads classified as major collector or higher.

2017-2022 application

As part of the application process, applicants are required to prioritize all proposed projects. An Example of How to Prioritize Projects is provided to assist applicants with the completion of the Project Priority section of the application form. The application deadline was July 10, 2017. Funding for all projects will be capped at the approved amount. Questions on the application process should be directed to the appropriate WisDOT regional contact person listed below.
