WIS 22, County BE to Oconto County Line, Shawano County

Location

WIS 22, County BE to County R; County R to Oconto County Line, Shawano County

Project Overview

The proposed project is along WIS 22 from County BE to the Oconto County Line in Shawano County (11.5 miles). The existing pavement is showing signs of distress with cracking and rutting. These cracks may deteriorate further to become safety hazards, especially during weather events, and contribute to continued accelerated pavement deterioration by allowing water to seep beneath the roadway surface. There are several culverts that are deteriorating and nearing the end of their service life. There is an operational issue near the County R intersection where traffic is weaving to avoid left-turning vehicles within the short 4-lane section. There are several locations of guardrail along the project that do not meet current design standards and will be upgraded with this project. There is an existing rear-end crash pattern at the Resort Road intersection; safety at this intersection will be improved by adding a left-turn lane to eastbound WIS 22.

Traffic Impact

Traffic will be detoured for approximately four weeks along WIS 117, WIS 29, WIS 160 and WIS 32. The remainder of the project work will be performed under flagging with single lane colures. Local access along WIS 22 will be maintained throughout construction. Temporary driveway closures will be necessary during parts of the construction process.

Real Estate

A small amount of real estate acquisition is expected. Refer to display-Anticipated Real Estate Acquisitions for locations.

Public Involvement

In This Together program for businesses

WisDOT recognizes businesses located in work zones have special needs. It's critical that customers have access to businesses and that they continue to visit them, regardless of any road work inconvenience. WisDOT's In This Together program is offered to business and community leaders as an idea source as they plan for road construction in their area. On the In This Together page, businesses can find:

  • Specially designed Business Coordination Guide for businesses to succeed during a highway construction project, includes information on:
    • Planning ahead
    • Staying informed
    • Keeping customers informed
    • Tips for businesses
  • Case studies that demonstrate techniques that have been successfully used in communities throughout Wisconsin.
  • Promotional samples showing a variety of examples of how businesses have promoted their businesses during construction.

During construction, temporary signing for business will be available. While signing and other marketing/advertising during the construction is up to the business, WisDOT encourages businesses to use the resources above to assist them with planning for construction before the construction begins.
