WIS 97 (Central Avenue), Arnold Street to Harrison Street, Marshfield, Wood County
The primary goals of this project are to extend the service life of WIS 97 and enhance safety.
The pavement on WIS 97 is deteriorating and requires repair. Collisions have also been identified as a safety problem along this section. From 2009 to 2013, 99 crashes occurred within the project limits, 45 of those crashes occurred at the Doege Street intersection. Rear-end collisions comprised a significant proportion of the crashes reported.
We are proposing an improvement project that includes resurfacing the roadway with new asphalt pavement. Additional improvements may include:
- Spot storm sewer repairs
- Curb and gutter repairs
- Traffic signal upgrades at Arnold Street and Doege Street
- On-street bicycle accommodations
- Upgrading pedestrian ramps to meet ADA standards
Although significant changes to the existing alignment or profile are not anticipated with the current solution, we are proposing to modify lane widths and configurations to meet the safety improvement objectives.
Additional project information
Currently, there is on-street parking on WIS 97 between Arnold Street and Harrison Street.
After receiving feedback and coordinating with the city, the Board of Public Works issued their approval of the on-street parking concept, which includes on-street parking between Arnold Street and Edison Street. There will be no on-street parking between Edison Street and Harrison Street.
Construction is currently scheduled for 2019, but could occur as early as 2018. WIS 97 will remain open to traffic during construction. Motorists can expect to encounter lane closures, traffic shifts, crossovers, on-street parking restrictions, and temporary traffic signals.
- Real estate negotiations begin as early as summer 2016
