Traffic counts - Continuous count data

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) collects continuous count data from about 350 permanent data collection sites primarily located on the State Trunk Highway System. Data at continuous count sites are scheduled to be collected in hourly intervals each day of the year.

Included in these online publications are reports summarizing:

  • Annual day of week summaries
  • Annual hourly day of week percentage summaries
  • Volume comparison with the previous year

Up until 2011, this data was available through a print publication. The information for 2011-2014 is available to download in PDF format, below. Continuous count information for years 2015 to 2018 can be requested from the DOT Traffic Data Unit. Continuous counts since 2018 can be found using TCMap, WisDOT’s interactive traffic count map application.

Other traffic count related questions can also be directed to the DOT Traffic Data Unit.
