North Central Region Construction Preview

Release date: March 25, 2021

This is the North Central Region’s first annual construction preview of all road construction projects taking place in 2021 on state and U.S. highways in Adams, Green Lake, Florence, Forest, Iron, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Marquette, Menominee, Oneida, Portage, Price, Shawano, Vilas, Waupaca, Waushara, and Wood counties.

Construction schedules may fluctuate pending favorable weather conditions and crew availability.

When construction season begins, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) North Central Region provides weekly road construction updates every Friday between March and November.

Regionwide Project
Counties: Green Lake, Waupaca
Schedule: Early May to late August 2021
Cost: $438,166
Project description: Work will include completing minor bridge surface repairs and installing a polymer overlay on the entire bridge surface to seal the concrete and improve vehicle traction on the bridge surface.
Project Locations:

Traffic impacts:

  • Roadways will remain open to traffic while work is occurring on the bridges. No detour routes will be posted with this work.
  • WIS 23 and WIS 110 in the Town of Fremont will be reduced to a single lane of traffic in each direction. 
  • WIS 54, WIS 22, WIS 49 and WIS 110 in Weyauwega will be reduced to a single lane with the use of temporary traffic signals.
  • Pedestrian access will be restricted to one side of the bridge on WIS 110 in Weyauwega.
  • Pedestrian and bicycle trail access will be maintained on the WIS 54/WIS 22 bridge in Waupaca. A shuttle service will be used during a portion of the work. Width restrictions will be posted.
  • All lanes will be open to traffic during the 4th of July and the Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.

Adams County

Highway: WIS 82 (carryover from 2020)
Location: County B to the Marquette County line
Schedule: April 2021 through July 2021
Cost:  $10,436,000
Project description: This project constructs new concrete pavement and new gravel base. The project also includes guardrail replacement, curb and gutter, and culvert pipe repairs.
Traffic impacts: WIS 82 will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the project. Traffic will be detoured via WIS 13, WIS 23, and I-39. Access to residents and businesses along the corridor will be maintained throughout the project.

Highway: WIS 82
Location: From WIS 13 in the town of Springville to approximately 450 feet east of the County B intersection in the town of Jackson.
Schedule: Anticipated mid-April 2021 to October 2021
Cost: $5 Million to $5.5 Million
Length: 6 miles
Project description: Work consists of replacing the concrete pavement along with improvements to the layer of gravel material under the pavement where needed; existing gravel shoulders will be restored. Six culverts will be replaced along WIS 82 along with four others at 8th and 9th Avenues. A storm drain and outfall at 10th Avenue will be added. The WIS 82 bridge over Neenah Creek will receive a new asphalt overlay.
Traffic impacts: WIS 82 will be closed to through traffic utilizing a posted detour of WIS 13, WIS 23 and I-39/US 51 during pavement replacement operations. During culvert replacement operations, affected side roads may be closed to local traffic during daytime working hours. The asphalt overlay at the bridge over Neenah Creek will be completed under a single lane closure with flagging. No material or equipment hauling to or from the project will be allowed during the Memorial Day, Independence Day or Labor Day holiday weekends.

Highway: WIS 13
Location: From the Columbia County line to approximately 1700 feet north of Golden Avenue in the town of Dell Prairie
Schedule: Anticipated May 2021 to June 2021, weather permitting
Estimated cost:  $900,000 to $1 Million
Length: 2.5 miles
Project description: Work consists of removing the top layer of asphalt and replacing with a new asphalt surface in the driving lanes and shoulder. Gravel shoulders will be restored. Curb and gutter and concrete median will be replaced in spot locations. The north end of the guardrail along northbound WIS 13, north of the bridge over Waubeek Road, will be repaired and extended.
Traffic impacts: One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained. Motorists can expect bi-directional traffic, single lane closures with flagging or shoulder closures. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained. Holiday work restrictions will be in place for Memorial Day and Independence Day weekends. This is also part of a detour route for construction projects on WIS 82.

Highway: WIS 13
Location: Bridges at Little Roche-A-Cri Creek and Carter Creek
Schedule: August 2021 to October 2021; two weeks in Summer 2022
Cost: $350,000
Project description: Both bridges will receive a new concrete deck overlay and polymer overlay. Little Roche-A-Cri Creek bridge will receive new bridge wingwalls and the steel beams at Carter Creek will be painted.
Traffic impacts: Traffic will be reduced to one-lane controlled with temporary traffic signals. Construction is expected to be about one month per site and could be done concurrently.


Florence County

Highway: WIS 139 (Carryover project from 2020)
Location: Fay Lake Road to the Michigan State line
Schedule: April 2021 to Fall 2021
Cost: $2,4687,350
Length: 9.1 miles
Project description: This project will remove and replace the asphalt surface. Several culverts will also be replaced in-kind.
Traffic impacts: WIS 139 will remain open during construction using temporary lanes or flaggers.

Highway: WIS 139
Location: Forest County line to Fay Lake Road
Schedule: Mid-July to Mid-September
Cost: $1,535,000
Length: 5.055 miles
Project description: This project will remove and replace the top two inches of asphalt. The project will also include culvert replacements, curb and gutter replacement, and will install sidewalk curb ramps and a small section of storm sewer in Long Lake.
Traffic impacts: Single lane closures with flagging.

Forest County

Highway: WIS 32
Location: From Forest Avenue in Wabeno to US 8 in Laona
Schedule: Estimate start in late June/early July to October 2021
Cost: $4.5 million to $5.5 million
Length: 8.6 miles
Project description: Crews will pulverize the existing roadway and reuse for aggregate. Crews will then place 5 inches of asphalt and stabilize 400 feet of slope just north of Round Lake Road.
Traffic impacts: This work will be completed using single lane closures and flagging operations. Work is restricted during the following occasions: 

  • Memorial Day: from noon Friday, May 28 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 1
  • Crandon Brush Run: from noon Friday, June 25 to 6 a.m. Monday, June 27
  • Independence Day: from noon Friday, July 2 to 6 a.m. Monday, July 5
  • Labor Day and Crandon World Championship Off-Road Races: from noon Friday, September 3 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 7

Florence and Forest Counties

Highway: WIS 101
Location: US 8 in Armstrong Creek to Woods Creek Road in Fern
Schedule: Mid-Summer to end of Fall
Cost: $3,947,000
Length: 12.62 miles
Project description: This project will remove and replace the top two inches of asphalt and will replace several culverts.
Traffic impacts: Culvert replacements will require a short-term detour utilizing US 8 west to WIS 139 north to WIS 70 east. Paving operations will utilize flaggers.


Iron County

Highway: US 2
Location: From Iron County B to State Line Road in Kimball
Schedule: Work is tentatively scheduled to begin in August and will last for about 2.5 months once started.
Cost: $2,352,455
Length: 8.4 miles
Project description: The top two inches of existing pavement will be removed and replaced with two inches of new asphalt. Existing guardrail at the box culvert over the West Fork Montreal River will be replaced. One culvert will be replaced.
Traffic impacts: Traffic will be controlled through flagging operations. Access disruptions will be limited to short durations as the mill or paver passes by. Holiday work restrictions include:

  • Memorial Day: Noon on Friday, May 28 through 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 1
  • Independence Day: Noon on Friday, July 2 through 6 a.m. Tuesday July 6
  • Labor Day: Noon on Friday, September 3 through 6 a.m. Tuesday September 7

Highway: US 2 and US 51
Location: US 2 from State Line Road in Kimball to the Michigan State line and US 51 from the rest stop in Hurley through the intersection with US 2
Schedule: Work is expected May through November 2021
Cost: $3,893,205
Length: 0.15 miles
Project description: The existing interchange between US 2 and US 51 will be replaced with a roundabout.
Traffic impacts: Work will be done in stages to maintain through traffic. A temporary intersection will be constructed to the west of the existing overpass. Motorists should expect to encounter single lane closures, width restrictions, and intermittent flagging operations throughout the duration of the project. Businesses within the project limits will have access maintained with gravel entrances for periods of time.
Holiday work restrictions include:

  • Memorial Day: Noon on Friday, May 28 through 6 a.m. Tuesday June 1
  • Independence Day: from noon on Friday, July 2 through 6 a.m. Tuesday July 6

Highway: US 51
Location: From half-mile north of Iron County C to Iron Street in Hurley
Schedule: Late summer through fall 2021
Cost: $1 million to $1.5 million
Length: 4 miles
Project description: The top 1.5 inches of existing surface will be removed and replaced with 1.5 inches of new asphalt. Six culverts will be replaced. Thermoplastic will be applied at two snowmobile trail crossings.
Traffic impacts: Traffic will be controlled with flagging operations. Holiday work restrictions include: 

  • Independence Day: Noon on Friday, July 2 through 6 a.m. Tuesday July 6
  • Labor Day: Noon on Friday, September 3 through 6 a.m. Tuesday September 7

Langlade County

Highway: WIS 64
Location: County P to Oconto County Line
Schedule: Spring to late Summer 2021
Estimated cost: Roadway: $2,900,000 Bridge: $389,000 
Length: 10.78 miles
Project description: Remove and replace asphalt pavement and culvert replacements. A new concrete surface will be installed on the Wolf River bridge.
Traffic impacts: Single lane closure with flagging and temporary signals.

Highway: WIS 64/WIS52
Location: WIS 64 from US 45 in Antigo to Clover Road in Antigo
Schedule: Estimated start in mid-May to mid-October 2021
Cost: $1.95 million
Length: 4.1 miles
Project description: This project will remove and replace two inches of asphalt pavement on WIS 64 from US 45 to Clover Road. The bridge over Spring Brook will be replaced half at a time to maintain traffic.
Traffic impacts: Traffic will be maintained in one lane on the Spring Brook Bridge throughout construction. A 10-foot width restriction will be in place during construction. During paving operations, flagging will be used to control traffic. Holiday work restrictions:

  • Memorial Day: from noon on Friday, May 28, 2021 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2021
  • Independence Day: from noon on Friday, July 2, 2021 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2021
  • Labor Day: from noon on Friday, September 3, 2021 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2021 

Lincoln County

Highway: US 51 northbound and southbound
Location: US 51 from the Lincoln County line in Pine River to County K in Merrill
Schedule: Estimated start in August 2021 with an estimated completion in November 2022
Cost: $13 - $14 million
Length: 6.8 miles
Project description: Improvements include removing existing asphalt surface and crushed concrete, then replacing with base materials and asphalt pavement. Other improvements include minor grading at median crossovers for traffic control, repaving maintenance cross overs and interchange ramps.  Additional guard rail will be added on northbound US 51 at WIS 64 to provide for traffic safety.
Traffic impacts: Lane closures will be necessary during the fall of 2021 for the improvements to the shoulders and median crossovers. Construction operations in 2022 will be limited from the first week of July thru Labor Day to minimize impacts to travel on US 51. However, there may be short-term ramp closures during July and August. Crews will either manage traffic using single lane closures or will close one set of lanes on US 51 while the other side carries both northbound and southbound traffic. Motorists can expect some delays to occur, but delays will be managed thru limiting contractor operations at critical times. Detours for the interchange ramp closures will utilize the next interchange to reroute traffic.

Location: County Q bridge over US 51 in the town of Scott
Schedule: July 2021 through October 2021
Estimated cost: $650,000 - $700,000 
Length: .156 miles
Project description: The project will include a concrete deck overlay of the County Q Bridge over US 51. It will also include work on the approaches to the bridge and guardrail replacement.
Traffic impacts: County Q traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled with temporary signals. There will be no restrictions to US 51 traffic related to this project.

Marathon County

Highway: WIS 52, Business 51
Location: City of Wausau

  • WIS 52 (Scott Street) Wisconsin River Bridge (.30 miles)
  • Business 51 (Grand Avenue) WI Central Ltd. Railroad Bridge (.27 miles)

Schedule:

  • WIS 52: Mid-April to end of June 2021
  • Business 51: Mid-June to end of September 2021

Cost: $1,045,756
Project description:

  • WIS 52: Bridge deck surface will be improved with a thin concrete overlay to extend the structure life. The bridge will also receive new expansion joints.
  • Business 51: Bridge improvements will include a thin concrete deck overlay to extend structure life; replacement of expansion joints; cleaning, removal of existing paint and applying new paint to the existing structure.

Traffic impacts: WIS 52 and Business 51 will be open to traffic with lane shifts; single and multiple lane closures.

Highway: WIS 153 (Carryover project from 2020)
Location: Old Highway 51 to East View Drive; Northbound and Southbound I-39 ramps at WIS 153; Mosinee
Schedule: Spring to late June 2021
Cost: $1,619,346.74
Project description: Work includes removing the top surface of the existing concrete pavement, repairing pavement cracks, and installing a new asphalt surface. Vehicle detection for traffic signals will be installed in the pavement on WIS 153 and the I-39 off-ramps. Curb ramps will be upgraded.
Traffic impacts: WIS 153 will remain open to traffic during construction. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.  I-39 northbound and southbound off-ramps may be closed up to three weekday nights each while on-ramps may be closed one night each. Closures may occur Monday through Thursday, between 9:00 pm and 6:00 am

Highway: WIS 107
Location: From WIS 153 in the town of Emmet to Town Road in Marathon City
Estimated Schedule: Late July 2021 to October 2021
Estimated Cost: $2 million to $3 million
Length: 8.5 miles
Project description: Work includes removing the top surface and replacing with asphalt pavement. Plastic liners will be installed in ten culvert pipes and one culvert pipe will be replaced. Guardrail will be upgraded, and new curb will be installed at the County N intersection.
Traffic impacts: WIS 107 will remain open to traffic. Single lane closures will occur with the use of flaggers. During culvert replacements, WIS 107 traffic will be detoured for up to 12 days using a posted detour of WIS 153, WIS 97 and WIS 29.

Highway: WIS 97
Location: From Black Creek in Athens to the Taylor County line
Estimated Schedule: Mid to late summer 2021
Estimated Cost: $1.3 million to $1.8 million
Length: 6.6 miles
Project description: Project will remove and replace the upper layer of asphalt pavement. Other improvements include widening the intersections of County F and County A, two culvert replacements and beam guard upgrades.
Traffic impacts: WIS 97 will remain open to traffic, but motorists can expect to encounter flagging operations.

Marquette County

Highway: WIS 22
Location: WIS 22 from the Columbia County line (County CM/Barry Road) in the town of Buffalo to (approximately 650 feet south of) East 5th Street in the town of Montello
Schedule: Anticipated mid-April 2021 to June 2021, weather permitting.
Cost: $2.5 to $3 Million
Length: 11 miles
Project description: Work consists of removing the top layer of asphalt and replacing with a new asphalt surface. The existing 6-foot (3-foot paved and 3-foot gravel) shoulders will be replaced with 6-foot paved shoulders from County CM to 16th Road. From 16th Road to East 5th Street, the existing 3-foot paved and 3-foot gravel shoulders will be replaced and restored. Seven culverts and guardrail at three locations will be replaced. The existing guardrail at the cattle pass approximately 1/4 mile north of 16th Road will be removed, new concrete masonry end walls added, and the roadway ditch slopes flattened.
Traffic impacts: One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained except in the vicinity of the active work operations. Motorists can expect milling and paving operations to be completed with single lane closures and flagging operations. Culverts will be replaced one half at time using temporary lane shifts and flagging operations. Guardrail replacements and cattle pass upgrades will be completed with single lane closures and flagging operations or shoulder closures. Holiday work restrictions will be in place for Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day holiday weekends.

Menominee County

Highway: WIS 47 (Carryover from 2020)
Location: Duquaine Road (BIA 334) to North Junction County VV
Schedule: April 2021 to November 2021
Cost: $6,028,729
Project description: This project will place new asphalt on WIS 47. The project also includes roadway widening for bicycle lanes, new storm sewer and curb and gutter, reconstructing sidewalk and curb ramps to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and will rehabilitate the bridge deck surface over the Wolf River.
Traffic impacts: There are six stages planned to manage traffic. Overall, motorists will encounter temporary signals, flagging operations, lane closures, sideroad closures, and a detour during stage four utilizing WIS 47, US 45, and WIS 29 for truck traffic and Go Around Road and County VV for local traffic. Oneida County

Highway: US 51
Location: From Oneida County L to Rocky Run Road in towns of Cassian and Nokomis
Schedule: Work will start sometime between May and August and will last for about 6 weeks once started.
Cost: $829,745
Length: 3.5 miles
Project description: The top two inches of the existing surface will be removed and replaced with two inches of new asphalt.
Traffic impacts: Traffic will be controlled with flagging operations. Work will not be allowed from noon Fridays through 6 a.m. Mondays and;

  • Independence Day: Noon on Friday July 2 through 6 a.m. Tuesday July 6
  • Labor Day: Noon on Friday September 3 through 6 a.m. Tuesday September 7
  • Tomahawk Fall Ride: Noon on Thursday September 16 through 6 a.m. Monday, September 20

Highway: WIS 17 (Carryover project from 2020)
Location: Pollyanna Road to WIS 70
Schedule: Summer 2021
Cost: $2,578,000
Length: 17.46 miles
Project description: This project consists of removing and replacing the top two inches of asphalt and replacing existing culverts.
Traffic impacts: Lane closures with flagging.

Highway: WIS 32
Location: Between Spirit Lake and Laurel Lake, east of Three Lakes
Schedule: Estimated for Spring 2021, before Memorial Day
Cost: $231,000
Length: .01 miles
Project description: This is an in-kind culvert replacement between Spirit Lake and Laurel Lake.
Traffic impacts: WIS 32 will be closed at the project location. Motorists will use a posted detour of WIS 32, US 8, US 45.

Highway: WIS 70
Location: From Morgan Road to US 51 in the town of Minocqua
Schedule: Construction is estimated to start in July and be completed in September 2021
Cost: $1 Million to 1.5 Million
Length: 1.4 miles
Project description: The existing pavement will be removed and replaced with new asphalt pavement. Curb ramps will be replaced and upgraded to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Spot repairs will be made to the existing curb & gutter, traffic signals, and inlets. Signs will be replaced. Thermoplastic will be added at two snowmobile crossings.
Traffic impacts: Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction. Holiday work restrictions include:

  • Memorial Day: Noon on Friday, May 28 through 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 1 
  • Independence Day: Noon on Friday, July 2 through 6 a.m. Tuesday, July 6
  • Labor Day: Noon on Friday, September 3 through 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 7
  • Tomahawk Fall Ride: Noon on Friday, September 17 through 6 a.m. Monday, September 20
  • Construction will be staged in a way that allows access to businesses. Access will be temporarily blocked for short durations during milling and paving operations throughout the project.

Portage County

Highway: WIS 66
Location: 100-200 feet beyond the I-39/US 51 on/off ramps in Stevens Point
Schedule: Mid-April to July 2021
Cost: $600,859
Length: 0.017 miles
Project description: WIS 66 work and I39/US 51 on and off ramp work consists of an asphalt resurface. Traffic signals will be installed at the I-39/US 51 northbound on/off ramp. Beam guard will be updated along WIS 66 median.
Traffic impacts: WIS 66 will be open to traffic with lane reductions. Holiday work restrictions will be in place for Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day, if needed. I-39/US 51 northbound and southbound on and off ramps will be closed one weekday night (Monday-Thursday) for each ramp for milling operations; they will also be closed one weekday night (Monday-Thursday) for each ramp for asphalt paving. Night ramp closures will use interchanges north (Business 51) and south (US 10) of the project interchange for “U-turn style” detours.

Highway: WIS 66
Location: From the ramps at I-39/US 51 to 1000-feet east of Stevens Point Municipal Airport main driveway
Schedule: Late July to early October 2021
Estimated Cost: $700,000 to $800,000

Project description: The existing concrete pavement will be removed and replaced with new asphalt pavement.
Traffic impacts: Road will be open to through traffic with a single lane in each direction.

Highway: Business 51 (Carryover project)
Location: Springville Drive to Tommy’s Turnpike
Schedule: April 2021 through October 2022
Cost: $7,051,758
Project description: Reconstruction of the roadway to a 4-lane concrete divided section, with a raised median and left turn lanes. Once complete, this section of Post Road will look similar to the sections immediately north and south of this project. The roadway will be widened, with new sidewalks, traffic signals, streetlights, and signing. Underground utilities including storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water, will be replaced. The Springville Pond causeway will be widened, and the related drainage structures will be upgraded. 
Traffic impacts: The roadway will be constructed in stages and will remain open to one lane in each direction for most of the project. There will be a detour for vehicles and pedestrians during the summer of 2021 to construct the drainage structures for the Springville Pond. The vehicle detour is anticipated to be maximum of 21 days in duration, and the pedestrian detour is anticipated to be a maximum of 10 days long. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained along the corridor.

Shawano County

Highway: WIS 117
Location: From Mutzy Lane in Bonduel to WIS 22 in Cecil
Schedule: July - October
Cost: $1 – 2 Million
Length: 4.20 miles
Project description: This project will remove and replace two inches of asphalt pavement, place shoulder gravel, replace guardrail near the Mountain Bay Trail bridge, and replace six culvert pipes along the corridor.
Traffic impacts: This project will be constructed under traffic with flagging during daylight hours. A minimum of one, 12-foot lane will be open to traffic. Access for local and emergency service vehicles traffic will be maintained.

Highway: WIS 29
Location: Intersection of WIS 29 and County U, Town of Herman
Schedule: July 2021 – November 2021
Cost: $3 Million to $5 Million
Length: .5 miles
Project description: WIS 29 westbound lanes to the east of the intersection will be reconstructed to lower the existing profile of the road to provide improved site distance. County U intersection will be reconstructed to be a J-Turn intersection to improve safety.
Traffic impacts:

  • WIS 29 will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction for the project’s duration.
  • No detour will be posted. Alternate route will be signed for oversized load vehicles via I-41, WIS 441, US 10 and US 45.
  •  Crossovers will be utilized, and traffic will run counter directional during the reconstruction of WIS 29 westbound lanes.
  • County U will be closed and/or turning movements restricted for the project’s duration.
  • County U staging:
    • Stage 1: South leg closed to all traffic; north leg will remain open
    • Stage 2: North leg closed to all traffic; south leg restricted to right in, right out movements only
    • Stage 3: North restricted to right in, right out movements only; south leg closed to all traffic. WIS 29 lane widths will be reduced to 11 feet in each direction for the duration of the project. WIS 29 will be reduced to one lane in each direction during the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Vilas County

Highway: US 51
Location: US 51 from Woodland Drive to Vilas County M in town of Arbor Vitae

  • Independence Day: Noon on Friday July 2 through 6 a.m. Tuesday July 6
  • Labor Day: Noon on Friday September 3 through 6 a.m. Tuesday September 7
  • Tomahawk Fall Ride: Noon on Thursday September 16 through 6 a.m. Monday, September 20

Highway: WIS 70
Location: US 45 to Divide Road
Schedule: April 2021 to Fall 2021
Cost: $3,946,000

Project description: This project consists of removing and replacing the asphalt surface. Several culverts will also be replaced in-kind.
Traffic impacts: WIS 70 will remain open during construction using temporary lanes or flaggers.


Waupaca County

Highway: WIS 22
Location: From north junction County N in Manawa to US 45 in Bear Creek
Schedule: Late summer to fall 2021
Cost: $ 2,750,000 - $3,250,000
Length: 12.16 miles
Project description: The project includes removing two-inches of asphalt pavement and placing two-inches of new asphalt pavement, beam guard reconstruction at Blake Creek and the Little Wolf River, five culvert replacements, and two curb ramp upgrades in Symco. The work will also include replacing two wing-walls at one box culvert.
Traffic impacts: WIS 22 will remain open during construction; motorists can expect to encounter lane closures and daylight flagging operations. Holiday and event restrictions will be in place for: Independence Day, Iola Old Car Show and Swamp Meet, Union Thresheree, Symco Hotrod & Kustom Weekender, and Labor Day.


​Waushara County

Highway: WIS 73 and WIS 73 ramps to and from I-39
Location: WIS 73 from 1,450-ft west of 4th Court to 1,450-ft east of 5th Avenue in the town of Plainfield
Estimated schedule: Spring 2021 to late-August 2021
Cost: $2.6 Million
Length: One mile along WIS 73 and partially on all 4 ramps at the I-39 interchange
Project description: Replacement of the pavement, including on WIS 73 and partially on all 4 ramps at the I-39 interchange. Other proposed improvements include new curb and gutter, new signing, and realignment of the southbound I-39 exit ramp intersection.
Traffic impacts: During construction, WIS 73 between 3rd Court to 5th Avenue will remain open to thru traffic but will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction. The I-39 ramps will be closed for approximately two weeks. The detour routes will utilize I-39 to both County D and County V.

Highway: WIS 73, WIS 21, and WIS 22
Location:
• WIS 73: 1,450-ft east of 5th Avenue in the town of Plainfield to the intersection of WIS 73/WIS 21/WIS 22 in the city of Wautoma.
• WIS 21/WIS 22: from the intersection of WIS 73/WIS 21/WIS 22 in the city of Wautoma to the intersection of WIS 21/WIS 22 in the city of Wautoma.
Schedule: Estimated for late-Spring through early-Fall
Cost: $3.8 Million
Length: 17 miles
Project description: The existing pavement surface will be removed, and a new asphalt surface will be placed. Other work includes guardrail replacement, culvert pipe repairs and replacements, and curb ramp reconstruction.
Traffic impacts: WIS 73, WIS 21, and WIS 22 will be open to traffic during construction. During construction, motorists can expect to encounter delays due to flagging operations. Shoulder and parking lane closures are also needed to complete the work.

Highway: WIS 22
Location: WIS 22 from the Marquette County line/County JJ in the town of Dakota to WIS 21 West/West Division Street in the city of Wautoma
Schedule: Anticipated mid-May 2021 to August 2021, weather permitting
Cost: $1.5 Million to $2 Million
Length: 7 miles
Project description: Work consists of removing the top layer of asphalt and replacing with a new asphalt surface. Asphalt shoulders will be widened beginning south of West Prairie Street to the end of the project at WIS 21 West/West Division Street. Gravel shoulders will be restored. Four culverts will be replaced including a new concrete pipe arch carrying WIS 22 over Mud Creek. Three additional culverts will be lined. Guardrail will be replaced at the bridge carrying WIS 22 over the West Branch of the White River.
Traffic impacts: During the Mud Creek culvert replacement, WIS 22 will be detoured starting in Montello using WIS 23 and WIS 73. The detour will be in place for no more than 18 calendar days and is to occur between June 7, 2021 and July 2, 2021. The remaining three culvert replacements will be completed one half at a time utilizing lane shifts and flaggers. During resurfacing operations, WIS 22 will be open to local traffic using single lane closures and flaggers. Holiday work restrictions will be in place for Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day holiday weekends.

Wood County

Highway: WIS 80
Location: Bridge over the Yellow River (Remington Ditch)
Schedule: February 8, 2021 to May 2021
Cost: $648,255
Length: .11 miles
Project description: This is a bridge replacement on WIS 80.
Traffic impacts: WIS 80 is closed and detoured for 90 calendar days. WIS 80 south bound traffic is detoured onto WIS 173 and WIS 21 back to WIS 80. Northbound traffic is detoured onto WIS 21 and WIS 173 back to WIS 80. Detour route travels through Wood and Juneau counties.
