Governor Evers approves US 151 improvements in Manitowoc County

Construction begins April 19, 2021​

Release Date: April 8, 2021 

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Governor Evers signed a $2.27 million contract to improve 7.8 miles of US 151 from WIS 67 to Roosevelt Street in Manitowoc County. The project will begin Monday, April 19, 2021. It is a 35-working-day contract and expected to conclude in early June. The roadway will remain open during construction.

Northeast Asphalt, Inc. from Greenville, Wis., is the Prime Contractor.

Project improvements

Construction will consist of a 2” asphaltic mill and overlay, base aggregate shouldering, culvert repair, spot curb and gutter replacement, minor grading around beam guard areas, beam guard im​provements, centerline rumble strips, permanent signing and pavement markings. The finished roadway will consist of two, 12’ wide travel ways with 5’ wide asphalt shoulders and 3’ wide aggregate shoulders.

Traffic impacts

US 151 will remain open to traffic during construction. Work will be conducted under flagging operations. Minor delays can be expected in the work zone.

Project benefits

The project will address minor deformations and cracking in the pavement surface which will reduce surface roughness and provide smoother driving surface for motorists. The asphalt overlay will also extend to life of the existing pavement. The addition of centerline rumble strips will enhance safety.
