Bridge deck removal to result in full closure of southbound I-39

Release date: June 3, 2022

Because of equipment issues, removal of the US 10/WIS 66 bridge over I-39 in the Portage County city of Stevens Point is going to require an additional full closure of southbound I-39 to minimize the risk to the traveling public.

  • Southbound I-39 will be closed from 9 p.m. Monday, June 6 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, and the signed detour route for southbound I-39 traffic will be Business 51 to East WIS 66 for southbound I-39.

The closure is necessary as bridge deck pavements are being completely removed, creating a chance for falling debris. The deck removal is scheduled for overnight hours to minimize the disruption to travelers.

In addition to the full closure, the following lane closures are planned:

  • The left lane of southbound I-39 will be closed from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 6.
  • The right lane of northbound I-39 will be closed from 6 a.m. Monday, June 6 to noon Friday, June 10.
