Multiyear project includes culvert and inlet repairs, guardrail replacement
Release date: June 14, 2022
To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $15.27 million contract with prime contractor Rock Road Cos., Inc. of Janesville for a resurfacing project on northbound I-39, beginning approximately 1,300 feet south of the Columbia/Marquette County line north to about 300 feet north of the Marquette/Waushara County line. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, June 20.
This segment of I-39 is showing signs of distress. To address this, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:
- Remove the existing asphalt pavement on I-39 and its interchange ramps and place new asphalt.
- Repair culverts and inlets.
- Replace guardrail.
During construction, I-39 will remain open to traffic, but motorists can expect lane and ramp closures, including the following from about the County X overpass to the County D half interchange for crossover construction:
- The inside lane of northbound I-39 will be closed from 7 a.m. Monday, June 20 to noon Friday, June 24.
- The inside lane of southbound I-39 will be closed from 7 a.m. Monday, June 20 to 5 p.m. Friday, June 24.
Construction is scheduled for completion in June 2023, with work in 2022 concluding in mid-November and work in 2023 resuming in early April. The schedule is weather dependent.
