Governor Evers approves WIS 32 culvert project in Forest, Oneida counties

Project includes replacing nine culverts, installing new one

Release date: July 14, 2022

To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $1.72 million contract with prime contractor Musson Bros. Inc. of Rhinelander for a culvert project on WIS 32 between Crandon in Forest County and the Oneida County town of Three Lakes. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, July 18.

Ten culverts on this portion of WIS 32 are showing signs of deterioration. To address this, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:

  • Replace seven culverts in Forest County and two in Oneida County.
  • Place one new culvert in Oneida County.
  • Clearing ditches.
  • Replacing guardrail

During construction, WIS 32 will be closed for the replacement of three culvert pipes – one at Pine Creek, one at Scott Creek and one at Julia Creek, and traffic will be detoured via US 8 and US 45. Each location will be closed for a short time, and once pipes are backfilled, the highway will be open to traffic. For the replacement of the six other culverts and installation of the new one, WIS 32 will remain open to traffic, but motorists can expect to encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging.

Construction for the majority of work is scheduled for completion in late October. Work at Julia Creek is expected to take place in May 2023. The schedule is weather dependent.
