Governor Evers approves I-43 bridge deck improvements in Manitowoc County

Project begins Monday, July 26

Release Date: July 15, 2021

(Manitowoc) To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Governor Evers signed a $597,386 contract to improve 19 bridge decks on I-43 throughout Manitowoc County. The project begins Monday, July 26 and is expected to be complete by the end of August this year. I-43 will remain open during work on bridge decks.

Ram Construction Services, Inc. from Livonia, Michigan is the Prime Contractor.

Project improvements

The project consists of applying a thin, protective polymer overlay to the entire top surface of 19 bridge decks on I-43 in Manitowoc County.

Benefits

The polymer overlays protect and prolong the life of the bridge deck. This minimizes future maintenance costs and increases the time before a more costly deck rehabilitation project is required.

Traffic impacts

I-43 will be open to traffic with single-lane closures when work is conducted at a bridge. Minor delays may occur. A reduction of the posted regulatory speed limit will be installed through the construction zone. Specific locations and dates of work will be posted in the Northeast Region Weekly Construction Update.

Work Zone Safety

Each year in Wisconsin, both highway workers and motorists are killed and injured in crashes that happen in highway construction zones. Motorists should slow down, be patient and pay attention to their surroundings in this and all work zones.
