Governor Evers approves improvement project on WIS 153 in Marathon County

Work includes resurfacing highway, replacing culverts, curb and gutter

Release date: August 11, 2022

To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $2.7 million contract with Mosinee-based prime contractor American Asphalt of Wisconsin for an improvement project on WIS 153 between WIS 107 and Rangeline Road in Mosinee in Marathon County. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, Aug. 15.

The existing pavement on WIS 153 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:

  • Remove a portion of the existing pavement and place new asphalt pavement.
  • Replace nine culverts.
  • Replace curb and gutter.

During construction, WIS 153 will be closed to through traffic for culvert replacements from Monday, Aug. 15 through Friday, Aug. 26, and traffic will be detoured via WIS 107, WIS 29 and US 51.

The remainder of the work will be completed using single-lane closures controlled by flagging. After the culvert replacements are complete, curb and gutter work is scheduled for completion in early September. Milling and paving operations are currently scheduled for May 2023 with project completion by May 26, 2023. The schedule is weather dependent.
