Forty-one percent of vehicle miles traveled in Wisconsin utilize locally owned roads and preserving those 102,000 miles of pavement helps to promote safety and efficient mobility. Our goal is to have 93 percent of all paved, and 85 percent of all unpaved, local pavements rated in fair condition or better.
How is this measure trending? Unfavorable
Arterial - Street and highways carry relatively high traffic volumes. There is no unpaved mileage for this functional classification.
Collector - Typically provide a mixture of both mobility and land access.
Local - Roads are designed for low speeds and generally low volumes.
Preservation: Protecting, maintaining and operating Wisconsin’s transportation system efficiently by making sound investments that preserve and extend the life of our infrastructure, while protecting our natural environment.
