WIS 49, Depot Street in Scandinavia to South Junction WIS 161 in Iola.
The project includes removing the top layer of asphalt and placing a new top layer of asphalt, widening the travel lanes from 11 feet to 12 feet and providing a 3-foot paved and variable width gravel shoulder from Scandinavia to County B, replacing the guard rail near Depot Street in Scandinavia, updating pedestrian curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility criteria, and replacing the sidewalk in Iola from Division Street to Ellefson Street in Iola. The pavement width in the urban sections of Scandinavia and Iola and the rural section from County B to Iola will remain the same as existing. Pavement marking upgrades will also be included.
During construction, WIS 49 will remain open to traffic utilizing staged construction but will likely be reduced to one lane. Motorists can expect to encounter shoulder closures and single lane closures with moving or flagging operations. Lane widths will be narrowed; uneven lanes and driving on milled surfaces can be expected. Access will be maintained to business and residential driveways; however, driveways will be temporarily closed for short periods while construction operations are in the immediate vicinity of the driveways. Pedestrians can expect sidewalk and pedestrian curb ramp closures; temporary pedestrian accommodations will be provided.
