Environmental Summary Documents
WisDOT avoids or minimizes the impacts of transportation projects to the natural and human environment while delivering projects efficiently. Balancing the department's environmental responsibilities with transportation program needs requires regulatory process expertise and a thorough understanding of state and federal environmental requirements. Environmental professionals in each transportation region and in the central office work to achieve this balance.
The below documents pertain to the I-41 Project and will be uploaded to this website as the project moves through the design phase. For an overview of WisDOT's Environmental Programs, please see the department

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDY AND RELATED ENVIRONMENTAL DOCUMENTS
FHWA and WisDOT completed an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the I-41 Project in June 2021. The EA documented the purpose and need for the proposed improvements, alternatives considered, environmental impacts of the alternatives retained for detailed study, and public involvement and agency coordination during the project.
Following approval of the EA, agencies and the public were provided the opportunity to review the document and provide comments. This included public hearings conducted in July 2021.
Based on the findings of the EA and comments received, FHWA and WisDOT determined that the I-41 Project would not result in any significant impacts on the quality of the environment, thus, a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) document was completed to conclude the EA process and document the decision.
