I-94 (Eau Claire to Osseo)- Eau Claire County

Eau Claire to Osseo, Eau Claire County, on I-94 and WIS 93

I-94 and WIS 93 are critical routes for many motorists. I-94 is a backbone route, a principal arterial road in the National Highway System, a state truck route, an OSOW route and a county bike route. Two bridges on I-94 are in need of significant repairs, including wingwall replacement, joint replacement, fiber wrapping and polymer overlay.

Two build alternatives were considered: a no build solution and a bridge rehabilitation solution. It was determined that routine maintenance would not be enough to improve the functionality of the highways. WisDOT has determined a bridge rehabilitation project to be the preferred alternative to ongoing issues at the bridges.

The project is currently scheduled for construction in 2025, but may be advanced to occur as early as 2021.

Public Involvement

Public involvement objectives for the project include the following:

  • Inform the traveling public and adjacent residents and property owners of planned detours and delays of WIS 93, as well as inform them of the proposed detour route.
  • Coordinate with adjacent property owners for any access changes or interruptions.
  • Address encroachments into the highway right-of-way. Right-of-way acquisition is not anticipated.

Traffic Impacts

I-94 and WIS 93 will remain open to traffic during construction. Single lane closures will be utilized during off-peak traffic periods on I-94 and continuous single lane closures will be maintained on WIS 93 until work is completed at the two bridges.
