Public Involvement
The public involvement process for this project involves a variety of departmental goals:
- Identify and actively involve stakeholders with the project development process.
- Communicate the project purpose and needs.
- Provide consistent and clear communication.
- Acknolwedge, evaluate and address stakeholder issues, expectations, and concerns by gathering input through various forms of communication.
In order to achieve these goals, providing resources to the general public is essential. This page will contain links and information relevant to the fulfillment of these goals.
Project Purpose
- The existing pavement on US 8 has reached the end of its useful life, exhibiting signs of cracking and deterioration. This creates safety and mobility issues which must be addressed.
- Storm sewer inlets from Ash Street to County P have deteriorated significantly, with some features missing entirely. Deteriorated inlets may cause safety and mobility issues, which should be addressed alongside the deteriorated pavement.
- US 8 experiences a high frequency of Run-Off-Road (ROR) crashes. High crash rates constitute a major safety risk, and should be addressed alongside the other work being performed on the project.
Project Needs
- Both segments of road need asphalt resurfacing or reconstruction to correct road deterioration.
- Storm sewer inlets need to be repaired, with certain features replaced.
- The high frequency of ROR crashes warrant modifications to the highway that would result in a decreased likelihood for ROR crashes.
