US 8 Resurfacing

Location

Both projects take place in Barron county. The second project, WIS 46 South Junction to Front Avenue, also takes place in Polk County.

  • Turtle Lake to Cameron, between Ash Street and County P (5.4 miles)
  • St. Croix Falls to Turtle Lake, between WIS 46 South Junction roundabout and Front Avenue (9.8 miles)

Overview

The first of the proposed projects (Ash Street to County P) involves 5.4 miles of asphalt resurfacing. The second project (WIS 46 South Junction roundabout to Front Avenue) involves 9.7 miles of asphalt resurfacing. Other work to be performed on the projects will include gravel shouldering, centerline rumble strip installation, pavement marking, and any incidental items that may be necessary.

A Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) project will be developed alongside these projects to help increase safety by reducing the likelihood of Run-Off-Road (ROR) crashes. The HSIP project will widen the paved element of the shoulder from 3' to 5', while maintaining the overall shoulder width of 10'. Additionally, shoulder rumble strips will be installed in appropriate areas. These improvements will provide motorists greater notice and time to react if their vehicle begins to shift off the road.

Schedule

The project between Ash Street and County P is scheduled for the 2020 construction season. Project letting will occur in May of 2020.

The project between the WIS 46 South Junction roundabout and Front Avenue is scheduled for the 2021 construction season. Project letting will occur in May of 2020.

Traffic Impacts

Ash Street to County P: During construction, motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures with flagging operations to control traffic through the work area. Access to local businesses and residences will be maintained.

WIS 46 South Junction roundabout to Front Avenue: During construction, US 8 will remain open to traffic. Motorists can expect two-lane conditions with short term single lane conditions using flagging operations to control traffic through the work area.
