WIS 29, Pierce County Improvements


US 10 in Prescott to WIS 65 in the city of River Falls.​​​​



This undertaking consists of multiple projects:

US 10 to the County QQ south junction:

  • Removing and replacing existing pavement.
  • Removing and replacing culvert pipes at multiple locations.
  • Removing and replacing existing guardrail.

County QQ south junction to Cemetery Road in the city of River Falls:

  • Removing and replacing existing pavement.
  • Replacing culverts, guardrail and 3-foot paved shoulders with 5-foot paved shoulders.
  • Installing centerline and edge line rumble strips.
  • Rehabilitating the bridge over Greenwood Valley Creek.
  • Modifying three intersections:
    • County E
      • Changing the bypass lane to a dedicated left-turn lane.
    • County FF
      • Rebuilding the intersection to add left-turn lanes for east- and westbound Highway 29 traffic and a right-turn lane for westbound WIS 29 traffic.
      • Reconfiguring the channelizing island for right turns from southbound County FF.
    • Cemetery Road
      • Widening the southeast radius for truck movement.

South Main Street to WIS 65:

  • Milling and overlaying existing pavement.
  • Modifying two intersections:
    • Emory Circle
      • Altering intersection to allow right turns only from Emory Circle to Cemetery Road (WIS 29).
    • South Wasson Lane
      • Modifying the geometry in the southwest corner of the roundabout to better accommodate trucks.
  • Addressing guardrail deficiencies.
  • Upgrading curb ramps.


This project is scheduled for construction in 2021.

Traffic Impacts

For the work between US 10 in Prescott and Cemetery Road in River Falls:

  • Motorists will be detoured via US 10 and WIS 65.
  • Pedestrians will be detoured during box culvert work near 805th Avenue in River Falls.

For work between South Main Street and WIS 65:

  • Traffic will be maintained using flagging operations and lane closures.
  • Pedestrian accommodations will be made during sidewalk work.

Public Involvement

A public involvement meeting scheduled for March 17, 2020, was canceled as a precautionary measure based on guidance from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to limit gatherings for the time being.
