Public Involvement

Public Involvement

  • The public involvement process for this project involves a variety of departmental goals
  • Identify, inform and gather input from the stakeholders about the project purpose and need, improvement concepts, and impacts of the proposed improvement
  • Inform and receive feedback from members of the public on the purpose, need and impacts of the projected concept
  • Ensure local officials and emergency management representatives are aware of the proposed project impacts both during and after construction
  • Keep all stakeholders updated with project changes and are afforded the opportunity to provide input on the project

In order to achieve these goals, providing resources to the general public is essential. This page will contain links and information relevant to the fulfillment of these goals.

Project Purpose

  • Road safety: 60 crashes were documented on this highway segment from 2011 to 2015. The current cross-section of WIS 46 does not easily allow left-turning movements, and 25% of these accidents occurred during left turns.
  • Pedestrian safety: The existing geometry of WIS 46 presents a pedestrian "multiple lane threat," where a pedestrian needs to cross four lanes at one time to cross the street
  • ADA compliance: Many curb ramps on the highway are out of compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards

Project Needs

  • Convert WIS 48 into a three-lane highway, with two travel lanes and a two-way left turn lane (TWLTL) in the center
  • Resurface WIS 48 with asphalt pavement
  • Replace or update curb ramps as needed
