Project location
US 12 (County C to Waterbury Road), Bluffview - Sauk County
Project overview
This is a Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) project. Federal safety improvement funding is one of the main sources of funding for this project. The crash rate for this segment of highway is 83 per 100 million vehicle mile (vhm), which is one and a half times greater than the average crash rate of 51 per 100 mcm for this type of highway (rural and small urban expressway). This section of US 12 experiences a high rate of run-off-the road crashes. Due to the high crash rate for this segment of highway, the roadway will be realigned to eliminate the sharp horizontal curves that are currently present. The design also includes realigning County C to be at a safer location relative to realigned US 12.
Schedule
- May 2020 - Construction anticipated

Reconstruction of US 12 will be conducted using staged construction which includes 6 separate stages.
