Traffic impacts/detours |
US 14 between WIS 92 & WIS 138, Madison - Dane County
The project proposal is to reconstruct the intersection of US 14 and WIS 92 to a roundabout in order to reduce the history of fatal/severe injuries type crashes. This intersection had seventeen recorded crashes from 2012 through 2016. Of the 17 crashes, 14 were right angle crashes. Those 14 crashes resulted in two suspected serious injuries, two suspected minor injuries, four possible injuries, and six property damage only crashes. The project is being funded through the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). The project will also address 4.0 miles of deteriorating pavement on US 14 between WIS 138 and WIS 92 in Dane County. WisDOT is in the process of developing plans to resurface this 4-mile section of US 14 to extend the service life and improve safety. The project will remove and replace the asphalt pavement.
Additional improvements include:
- Pave asphalt shoulders throughout corridor to improve safety.
- Centerline rumble strips to improve safety.
- Installation of gravel shoulders to match the final roadway elevation.
- Installation of pavement marking.
- PIM #1 - October 24, 2018
- Construction - Spring of 2022
The Department is currently evaluating two options relating to traffic during construction, the first options is detouring all traffic for all improvements on US 14 and WIS 92 and the second option is completing all necessary work under single lane closures with flagging operations both during the day and at night.
