Project location
US 14/61 (Brendel Lane to South Washington Lane), Viroqua - Vernon County
Project overview
A Highway Safety Improvement Project is planned for US 14/61 in the city of Viroqua to address the high rate of crashes along the corridor between Brendel Lane and South Washington Avenue.
The project is designed to restripe the existing four-lane highway to a three-lane section with one lane in each direction and a two-way left-turn lane. The improvement will allow for left-turning vehicles to leave the through lane to make their turning movement.
Other improvements planned are installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons at certain cross walks and minor geometric adjustments at the US 14/WIS 56 (Decker St.) intersection to improve truck turning movements.
Temporary limited easements are anticipated to accommodate sidewalk and curb ramp construction.
