WIS 22/ WIS 60/ US 51 Intersections, Town of Leeds, Columbia County
This is a safety improvement project.
An intersection control evaluation analyzed several alternatives to improve safety and operations at the intersection. This included two roundabout alternatives, two alternatives that provided a cul-de-sac at WIS 60 and improved the intersection of US 51 and WIS 22, and one alternative that provided a cul-de-sac at WIS 22 and improved the intersection of WIS 60 and US 51. In addition to these alternatives, traffic signals were also evaluated.
The evaluation and feedback received at the public involvement meeting held December 15, 2015, indicated that the roundabout alternative at WIS 60 and WIS 22 was the preferred alternative. The proposed design reduces the number of intersections from three to one, providing safer operations to motorists and reducing congestion at the intersection. The design was subsequently approved for Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funding.
