Project on sections of WIS 13 and WIS 64 to start

Work includes resurfacing roadway, reconfiguring WIS 13/64 intersection in Medford

Release date: April 18, 2024

To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $3.74 million contract with prime contractor American Asphalt of Wisconsin of Mosinee for an improvement project on segments of WIS 13 and WIS 64 in Taylor County. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, April 22.

The pavement on WIS 13 and WIS 64 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:

  • Resurface WIS 13 from County O in the town of Medford to Taylor Street in the city of Medford.
  • Resurface WIS 64 from National Avenue to WIS 13 in the city of Medford.
  • Reconfigure the WIS 13/64 intersection to better accommodate turning trucks, improve overall safety and replace the traffic signals at the crossing.
  • Replace pedestrian sidewalk curb ramps on both segments of highway to meet Americans With Disabilities Act standards.

During construction, motorists can expect to encounter daytime single-lane closures controlled by flagging operations. WIS 64 will be closed to through traffic during a project at the railroad crossing between Main Street and Whelen Avenue; that work currently is anticipated to start in mid-May at the earliest.

Construction is scheduled for completion by early August.
