Culvert replacement on WIS 13 in Bayfield County to start

Project includes replacing three culverts carrying Lost Creek west of Cornucopia

Release date: May 1, 2024

To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $1.91 million contract with prime contractor James Peterson Sons, Inc. of Medford for a culvert replacement project on WIS 13 west of Cornucopia in Bayfield County. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, May 6.

Three existing culverts carrying Lost Creek under WIS 13 have reached the end of their services lives. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:

  • Remove the existing culverts.
  • Place new culverts.
  • Replace the asphalt over the culvert replacement sites.

During construction, WIS 13 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by either flagging or temporary signals.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late September.
