Madison West DMV moves to South Park Street

The Madison West DMV Service Center at 8417 Excelsior Drive is moving in June and will become Madison Southwest DMV when it takes over its new location at 2344 South Park St., Madison. The new location is just blocks off the Madison Beltline (US 12/18). This southwest location serves a diverse and growing Madison population.

This new location will allow for easier access and visibility off the Beltline as well as greater access to public transportation. The new Madison Southwest on South Park St. is within blocks of the Madison Metro South Transfer Point and conveniently on the new North/South route of the BRT.

“As this part of Madison continues to redevelop, it’s exciting to deliver state services to this growing community while offering convenient access just blocks off the Beltline,” Adam Busalacchi, Wisconsin DMV Director of Bureau of Field Services said. 

​Online options available, Madison East DMV remain

With nearly every vehicle transaction available online, most Wisconsin residents can access DMV services without needing to visit a DMV office. Typical DMV customers need only visit a DMV office once every eight years to renew their driver license or ID. Many customers over age 65 may obtain non-expiring IDs, if they choose, and never need to return to a DMV office.

Services with the highest demand that are available online (wisconsindmv.gov​) include: 

• Renewing annual vehicle registrations
• Titling a vehicle
• Ordering replacement driver license or ID cards and changing one’s address.  

For those who do plan to visit a DMV, online features can make the process even faster. Scheduling an appointment, completing the applications, and obtaining a checklist of required documents are all available online. 

In addition, many in-person services are also provided by third-party vendors (such as kiosks at grocery stores) and/or via traditional mail.
