Culvert project on WIS 70 to start in Sawyer County

Work includes replacing culverts with a bridge, installing guardrail and signage

Release date: May 16, 2024

To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed an $898,575 contract with prime contractor Larson Construction Co., Inc., of Chippewa Falls for an improvement project replacing two steel culverts carrying Log Creek under WIS 70 northwest of the Sawyer County unincorporated community of Oxbo. Construction is scheduled to start Tuesday, May 28, but the contractor might begin mobilizing the week before.

The existing culverts have reached the end of their services lives. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:

  • Remove the existing culverts.
  • Construct a bridge to replace them.
  • Replace the asphalt pavement at both ends of the bridge.
  • Install guardrail and signage.

During construction, WIS 70 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging initially and then a single lane of traffic controlled by stop signs.

Construction is scheduled for completion in late August.
