Ramps to close at US 53/County S interchange

Southern ramps at Chippewa County interchange planned to reopen in early July

Release date: May 31, 2024

Starting Monday, June 3, the ramp from northbound US 53 to County S and the ramp from County S to southbound US 53 will close to traffic, so the pavement on each can be replaced as part of a pavement replacement project on US 53 from 40th Avenue in Lake Hallie to County B in Tilden in Chippewa County.

The closure is anticipated to be in place until early July. During the work, the ramps from County S to northbound US 53 and southbound US 53 to County S will remain open. Once the southern ramp work is completed, crews will begin work on the northern ramps.

Construction on the multiyear project began April 1. Work in 2024 includes:

  • Building temporary crossovers north and south of the project limits, ramp crossovers at County S and County B and emergency pullouts.
  • Completing temporary widening at the northbound US 53 exit ramp at County B and along County S.
  • Resurfacing east- and westbound County S at the US 53 interchange.
    • County S remains open, but east- and westbound motorists have been shifted to the westbound lanes, where they will remain until early July.
  • Replacing the pavement on northbound US 53 north of County N.

The schedule is dependent on weather and subject to change.
