Resurfacing project on WIS 64 east of New Richmond to start

Work includes adding a warning system to address crashes at the County T crossing

Release date: June 3, 2024

To invest in Wisconsin’s transportation system, Gov. Tony Evers has signed a $3.96 million contract with prime contractor Monarch Paving Co. of Amery for a resurfacing project east of New Richmond on WIS 64 from 142nd Street to US 63 South in St. Croix County. Construction is scheduled to start Monday, June 10.

The existing pavement is showing signs of deterioration. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:

  • Remove a portion of the WIS 64 roadway surface and resurface the highway with new asphalt.
  • Adjust guardrail.
  • Clean culvert pipes.
  • Seal joints on a box culvert.

To address crashes at the intersection of WIS 64 and County T, the project also will:

  • Install a Through Route Activated Warning System aimed at reducing crashes at the intersection of WIS 64 and County T.
    • Installation of the TRAWS will include placing sensors on County T and signs stating Watch for Entering Traffic with flashing beacons on WIS 64 to alert motorists of an approaching vehicle on County T.

During construction, WIS 64 will remain open to traffic, but motorists will encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging.

Construction is scheduled for completion in early August.
