WisDOT temporarily lifts weight restriction on WIS 13

Heavy rains result in flooding on WIS 13 in northern Bayfield County

Release date: June 19, 2024

Because of flooding on WIS 13 in northern Bayfield County, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation is temporarily lifting the 20-ton weight restriction on the local detour in the city of Washburn.

WIS 13 is closed between Thompson Creek and 1st Avenue West in Washburn because of a reconstruction project. The project has two detours – one for vehicles weighing more than 20 tons and the other for vehicles weighing 20 tons or less.

Heavy rain has resulted in closure of several segments of WIS 13 between the Flag River in Port Wing and Meyers Beach northwest of Cornucopia. That segment was part of the detour for the heavier traffic that uses US 2, County A and WIS 13.

Until repairs can be made at several culvert locations, all traffic can now use the other detour in Washburn, which follows West Bigelow Street, West Holman Lakeview Drive, Omaha Street East and 1st Avenue West.

Motorists are reminded that using handheld cell phones in Wisconsin work zones is illegal. Alerts and updates provided via these sites are not intended for use while driving. When driving, your focus should always be on driving.
