Damaged WIS 13 remains closed in northern Bayfield County

Release date: June 20, 2024

WIS 13 remains closed between Meyers and Happy Hollow roads northeast of Cornucopia in in northern Bayfield County because of damage to the highway and a culvert buried beneath it caused by heavy rain.

Crews from the Bayfield and Ashland County Highway Departments are working to repair the site, which is anticipated to reopen to traffic next week. However, rain forecasted in the coming days might impact their work.

WIS 13 remains closed between Thompson Creek and 1st Avenue West in Washburn because of a reconstruction project, and the 20-ton weight limit for the detour in the city, which follows West Bigelow Street, West Holman Lakeview Drive, Omaha Street East and 1st Avenue West, has been lifted until repairs can be made to the culvert and roadway near Meyers Beach.

Once WIS 13 reopens between Meyers and Happy Hollow roads, the 20-ton weight restriction in Washburn will be reinstated, and vehicles weighing more than 20 tons will be detoured via US 2, County A and WIS 13.
