Road, ramp closures planned next week near downtown Milwaukee

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is notifying motorists of upcoming traffic impacts associated with the Republican National Convention in downtown Milwaukee. Throughout the week of July 14, several planned closures will be in place for the large-scale event. Drivers must use alternate routes.

Planned closures during event:

  • Hoan Bridge (I-794 between Van Buren Street and Carferry Drive)
    • Sunday morning, July 14 to Monday morning, July 15
    • Eastbound I-794 access to Van Buren Street / St. Paul Avenue remains open
  • McKinley Avenue / Fond du Lac Avenue Ramps (WIS 145)
    • Closed the week of July 14
  • ​I-794 eastbound ramp closed to James Lovell Street
    • ​​​​Closed the week of July 14
  • ​​Kilbourn Avenue Tunnels
    • C​losed the week of July 14

The Milwaukee Downtown Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV) service center will be closed from Monday, July 15 through Friday, July 19. DMV online service is open 24/7 at wisconsindmv.gov.
