Governor Evers approves US 8 resurfacing project in Oneida County

Work includes replacing culverts, guardrail and thermoplastic snowmobile crossings

Release date: August 17, 2022

To invest in Wisconsin's transportation system, Governor Tony Evers signed a $5.44 million contract with prime contractor Northeast Asphalt, Inc. of Greenville to improve US 8 in Oneida County from County P southeast of Rhinelander to US 45 North in Monico. Construction started this week.

This segment of US 8 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation project will:

  • Remove a portion of the existing asphalt and place new asphalt pavement.
  • Replace culverts as needed, guardrail and thermoplastic snowmobile crossings.

During construction, motorists can expect to encounter daytime single-lane closures.

Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-November. The schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress.

Federal transportation funds will pay for 80 percent of the improvements; state transportation funds will pay for the remaining 20 percent.
