The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) provides weekly updates on road construction projects in the following counties in northwest Wisconsin: Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Buffalo, Burnett, Chippewa, Clark, Douglas, Dunn, Eau Claire, Jackson, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, Rusk, St. Croix, Sawyer, Taylor, Trempealeau and Washburn counties.
Ashland County
WIS 13
- Location: Butterworth Road to US 2 in Ashland
- Schedule: March 31 to mid-November
- Cost: $9.87 million
- Description: From Butterworth Road to 16th Street: Removing 3¼ inches of existing pavement and overlaying the roadway with 3¼ inches of hot-mix asphalt; replacing deteriorated culverts; and repairing frost heaves. From 16th Street to 6th Street: Replacing the pavement structure with 9 inches of Portland cement concrete pavement, 6 inches of base aggregate, 12 inches of granular subbase and underdrain pipe; replacing storm sewer system, curb ramps, curb and gutter; replacing sidewalk at curb ramps and spot locations; adding a designated bike lane between the travel and parking lanes in each direction on Ellis Avenue; removing and hauling decorative lights to city yard for repainting and reinstalling in landscaped medians; and replacing portions of the city water main in a separate tied project. From 6th Street to US 2: Replacing Portland cement concrete and hot-mix asphalt pavement with 9 inches of Portland concrete cement pavement; extending medians and left-turn lanes, remove one through lane and add designated bike lanes in each direction; and upgrading curb ramps at city street and trail crossings.
- Traffic impacts: WIS 13 is open to traffic, but:
- From 16th Street to US 2: North- and southbound traffic is operating on the southbound lanes.
- The following intersections are closed at WIS 13: 6th Street East, 8th Street East and 12th Street East.
- Truck traffic is being detoured via WIS 112 and US 2.
WIS 169
- Location: WIS 13 in Mellen to the Iron County line
- Schedule: June 16 to late October
- Cost: $7.1 million
- Description: Removing a portion of the existing pavement, pulverizing the subbase and injecting it with an asphaltic emulsion and then overlaying the roadway with 3.5 inches of new asphalt pavement; replacing the deck on the Bad River Bridge; replacing some culverts and placing new ones; repairing an eroding ditch; removing a railroad crossing, which the railroad will replace later; cleaning culverts and ditches where needed; adding centerline rumble strips; adjusting and/or replacing guardrail; enhancing gravel shoulders; and placing pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: WIS 169 is closed to through traffic from WIS 13 in Mellen to the Iron County line.
- Through traffic is being detoured via detoured via WIS 13, WIS 77, US 51 and US 2.
- Access to Copper Falls State Park and the North Country National Scenic Trail, as well as local residential traffic, is being maintained using WIS 77 to Olson Road to Butler Road to WIS 169 north of the bridge.
- Temporary traffic control signals have been set up on Butler Road west of East Tyler Avenue to control large noncommercial trailers and campers in the tight curved sections of Butler Road.
Barron County
14 1/2 Avenue
- Location: Barker Creek Bridge northwest of Cameron
- Schedule: September 29 to late November
- Cost: $482,782
- Description: Replacing the bridge, approach pavement and signs.
- Traffic impacts: The road is closed at the bridge.
US 53 South
- Location: Bridges over US 8, 20th Street, Knapp Street, County I, Chetek River, County A, County AA and Carlson School Road between Cameron and New Auburn
- Schedule: May 5 to mid-November, 2025 construction; March 1 to late September, total project completion.
- Cost: $10.91 million
- Description of 2025 work: Replacing the decks on the bridges over County AA and County A; overlaying the decks with concrete on structures over Carlson School Road, Knapp Street and US 8; making miscellaneous repairs to bridges; completing prep work for 2026 construction on the bridges over the Chetek River, County I and 20th Street; and replacing guardrail at the structures.
- Traffic impacts: US 53 South remains open to traffic, but:
- Motorists will encounter lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 60 mph in work zones.
- US 53 South reopens to two lanes of traffic, with a 70-mph speed limit between closures.
- There is a maximum width of 15 feet 3 inches on the open lane on most bridges.
US 63
- Location: Just west of WIS 48 West to Charrie Lane in Cumberland
- Schedule: April 28 to mid-October
- Cost: $3.68 million
- Description: Removing 3.25 inches of the existing pavement and placing 3.25 inches of new asphalt pavement; closing access to the roadway at various locations to improve safety; upgrading pedestrian curb ramps to current Americans With Disabilities Act standards; repairing or replacing curb, gutter and sidewalk; repairing sanitary sewer manholes and storm water inlets as needed; extending the two-way left-turn lane pavement markings between 3rd and 5th avenues; and replacing pavement markings and signage.
- Traffic impacts: US 63 remains open to traffic, but:
- North- and southbound traffic has 12-foot travel lanes through the entire project.
- The shoulder for the northbound lane is closed from the south project limits to the four-way stop until the end of September.
Bayfield County
WIS 13
- Location: Sand River Bridge between Cornucopia and Red Cliff
- Schedule: July 21 to mid-October
- Cost: $746,767
- Description: Replacing the expansion joints at each end of the bridge deck; removing and replacing the south edge of deck; installing stainless steel protective flashing and corrosion protection on the south edge of deck; replacing the concrete pavement approach slabs; paving approximately 25 feet of asphalt pavement; repairing the concrete surface at the abutments; replacing the south railing; salvaging and cleaning existing rebar; cleaning and painting the steel girder abutment bearings and the south exterior girder and painting the remaining girders at spot locations; sealing the bridge deck; and replacing pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: The bridge is open to a single lane controlled by temporary traffic signals.
Burnett County
Burnikel Road
- Location: Clam River Bridge
- Schedule: September 22 to early November
- Cost: $530,913
- Description: Replacing the bridge and reconstructing 100 feet of approach roadway.
- Traffic Impacts: The road is closed at the bridge.
East James Avenue and Johnson Street
- Location: South Robert Street to WIS 70, Grantsburg
- Schedule: July 10 to late August
- Cost: $653,100
- Description: Removing the existing pavement, paving new asphalt pavement, updating sidewalk curb ramps and placing new pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: Motorists will encounter daytime lane closures controlled by flagging.
Chippewa County
20th Avenue
- Location: Hay Creek Bridge southeast of Cadott
- Schedule: July 21 to early October
- Cost: $558,859
- Description: Replacing the bridge, roadway approach pavement and pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: The bridge is open to traffic.
County G
- Location: Yellow River Bridge southeast of Cornell
- Schedule: July 8 to late October
- Cost: $1.29 million
- Description: Replacing the bridge, roadway approach pavement and pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: The road is closed, with a posted detour.
County OO
- Location: Business 53 north of Melby Street to the WIS 124 intersection with Business 53 and County OO in Lake Hallie
- Schedule: August 11 to mid-October
- Cost: $1.72 million
- Description: Removing the existing pavement between Business 53 and Hogarth Street, crushing it down into base material, placing that as road base and paving new asphalt over it; milling off a portion of the existing pavement from Hogarth to the north project limits and placing new asphalt pavement; constructing a segment of trail to tie into the existing trail west of County OO; marking an at-grade trail crossing on County OO at 30th Avenue; installing curb and gutter at various locations; shouldering; and placing new pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: County OO is open to southbound traffic only in the southbound lane from WIS 124 to BUS 53.
- Northbound County OO traffic will continue to be detoured north on BUS 53 to the County OO/WIS 124 intersection.
- Some side streets along the corridor are closed.
- County OO is expected to reopen to two-way traffic late next week.
- County OO will be open to east- and northbound traffic from BUS 53/Hogarth Street at the southern project limits to WIS 124/BUS 53 at the northern project limits.
- County OO will be open to southbound traffic from South Joles Parkway to BUS 53/Hogarth Street, but the westbound segment of County OO will be closed from WIS 124/BUS 53 to South Joles Parkway for up to five days, so crews can remove part of the pavement and pave new asphalt pavement.
- During the closure, there will be a signed detour directing west- and southbound County OO traffic down BUS 53 to Hogarth Street.
WIS 29
- Location: 50th Avenue interchange and the intersection of 50th Avenue and County J, all in the town of Lafayette east of Chippewa Falls
- Schedule: March 11 to mid-September
- Cost: $5.26 million
- Description: For the WIS 29/50th Avenue interchange project: Removing and replacing the bridge, building retaining walls along east- and westbound WIS 29 at the abutments, replacing the roadway approach pavement and the pavement on the interchange ramps and replacing culverts, guardrail and pavement markings. This project will increase the vertical clearance of the bridge over the highway. For the 50th Avenue/County J intersection project: Constructing a single-lane roundabout, completing approach work on all legs leading into the roundabout, increasing the roadway profile an average of three feet to accommodate the profile rise of the new bridge and replacing storm sewer.
- Traffic impacts: None; project complete.
WIS 124
- Location: Just south of the Duncan Creek Bridge to Bridge Street in Chippewa Falls
- Schedule: June 2 to late October, 2025 construction. Traffic signal work has been pushed to spring 2026 because of utility conflicts on River Street.
- Cost: $2.56 million
- Description: Removing a portion of the existing pavement and placing new asphalt pavement; replacing storm sewer on Elm Street; modifying traffic signals at Columbia Street, Grand Avenue, Central Street, Spring Street and River Street; and updating sidewalk curb ramps.
- Traffic impacts: Motorists might encounter lane closures on side streets as minor 2025 work is completed.
US 53
- Location: 40th Avenue in Lake Hallie to County B in the town of Tilden
- Schedule: March 10 to late October, 2025 construction; and April 1, 2024 to late June 2026, overall project
- Cost: $36.6 million
- Description of 2025 work: Replacing the pavement on northbound US 53 and constructing temporary emergency pullouts south of County N; making repairs and completing polymer overlays on the northbound US 53 bridges over the Chippewa River and Business 29/County X; replacing the pavement on the on- and off-ramps at the County B and Business 29/County X interchanges; replacing the pavement on southbound US 53 north of County N, including the north- and southbound passing lanes north of County B; milling and overlaying the shoulder between County B and County Q along the driving lane of southbound US 53; replacing guardrail; completing culvert work; and installing new pavement markings and shoulder rumble strips.
- Traffic impacts: US 53 remains open to traffic, but:
- A single lane in both directions is operating on northbound US 53 from County N to County
- The ramps from southbound US 53 to County B and County B to southbound US 53 is closed until late October.
- The ramp from County S to southbound US 53 will be closed through today.
- The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph in the work zone.
Chippewa and Eau Claire counties
US 53
- Location: Golf Road in Eau Claire to 40th Avenue in Lake Hallie
- Schedule: June 2 to late October
- Cost: $10 million
- Description: Making repairs to or removing and replacing segments of concrete pavement; overlaying southbound US 53 with asphalt from WIS 312 (North Crossing) in Eau Claire to County OO in Lake Hallie; completing work at various structures; replacing guardrail; and placing new pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: US 53 remains open to traffic, but:
- Most work is being completed at night, but some work will occur during daytime hours.
- Motorists will encounter ramp and lane closures during off-peak travel hours.
- Crews plan to resume paving both travel lanes of southbound US 53 and a portion of the interchange ramps from County OO to WIS 312 the week of October 6.
- Paving will result in lane and intermittent ramp closures at County OO, Melby Street and WIS 312.
- Paving is expected to begin at 8 nightly and continue until 9 a.m. the following morning. Motorists traveling this segment in the morning should expect delays and might want to consider an alternate route.
Chippewa, Eau Claire and St. Croix counties
WIS 29, US 53 and I-94
- Location: WIS 29: 40th Avenue to 50th Avenue, Lake Hallie, County J to 190th Street, town of Lafayette, and County G, town of Delmar, to 0.45 mile west of County H in Stanley; US 53, County QQ, town of Seymour, to La Salle Street, Eau Claire; and I-94, 0.95 mile west of WIS 65 to WIS 65, Roberts, and 140th Street, town of Kinnickinnic, to County J, town of Pleasant Valley
- Schedule: August 7 to early November
- Cost: $2.99 million
- Description: Installing median cable barrier, reconstructing drainage structures, grading, restoring the graded areas and placing shoulder aggregate.
- Traffic impacts: US 53 and I-94 remain open to traffic.
- In St. Croix County, motorists will encounter inside nighttime lane closures on I-94 from the WIS 65 overpass to one mile west of WIS 65 and 140th Street to County J:
- Lane closures on westbound I-94 will typically be from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
- Lane closures on eastbound I-94 will typically be from 7 p.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
- Motorists will encounter shoulder closures when lane closures are removed.
- In Eau Claire County, motorists will encounter inside lane closures on US 53 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday from County QQ to La Salle Street when crews return to do shouldering work.
Clark County
Main Street
- Location: East Fork Halls Creek Bridge in Humbird

County G
- Location: Black River Bridge in Greenwood
- Schedule: June 2 to late November

- Description: Removing and replacing the bridge, reconstructing the bridge approaches and installing new guardrail and wider shoulders.
- Traffic impacts: County G is closed.
- Traffic is being detoured via WIS 73, County OO and County O.
WIS 29
- Location: Koser Avenue west of Thorp to County D in Owen
- Schedule: May 1 to mid-October
- Cost: $23.74 million
- Description: Making repairs to the concrete pavement; placing 3.75 inches of new asphalt pavement over WIS 29; removing 1.25 inches of the existing pavement on the ramps at the WIS 29 interchanges at WIS 73 North/County M and WIS 73 South/County T and placing 2.25 inches of new asphalt; replacing the expansion joints on the east- and westbound WIS 29 bridges over the Black River west of Withee; replacing all wing walls on a culvert carrying the Popple River under WIS 29 west of County D in Owen; replacing the northwest wing wall on a culvert between Thorp and Withee; cleaning culverts and ditches; and replacing guardrail and pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: WIS 29 remains open to traffic, but motorists will encounter a speed reduction to 55 mph during work hours in active work areas and the following on:

- Motorists will encounter lane closures controlled by temporary traffic signals to facilitate work on WIS 73 South.

- Motorists will be directed by flaggers when paving through side road intersections in both directions on WIS 29.
WIS 73
- Location: Rock Creek Bridge in Greenwood to WIS 29 East south of Withee
- Schedule: April 25 to late September
- Cost: $8.29 million
- Description: From Rock Creek Bridge to West Hunt Street in Greenwood: Removing 3.25 inches of existing asphalt and placing 3.25 inches of new asphalt pavement; replacing curb ramps and making spot curb and gutter repairs; replacing guardrail; and placing pavement markings. From West Hunt Street north to WIS 29 East: Removing 3.25 inches of the existing pavement and placing 3.25 inches of new asphalt pavement; replacing cattle passes no longer in use with culvert pipes; extending a box culvert north of Greenwood and replacing the structure’s wing walls; overlaying the Popple River Bridge deck with concrete, repairing the concrete surface on the bridge abutments, replacing two wing walls and repairing scour; cleaning or replacing culverts; cleaning ditches; and replacing or adjusting guardrail.

Douglas County
Hammond Avenue
- Location: North 21st Street to North 28th Street, city of Superior
- Schedule: May 5 to late October
- Cost: $4.49 million
- Description: Replacing the pavement, base and subbase materials; installing subbase drainage; replacing sewer and water utilities; replacing curb, gutter and sidewalk; constructing a median between the two traffic lanes; building a bicycle trail; and placing pavement markings and signage.
- Traffic impacts: The road is closed in the work zone.
County C
- Location: Minnesota state line to Barnes Road southwest of the village of Oliver
- Schedule: May 19 to early October, 2025 construction; October 16, 2024 to early October 2025, overall project
- Cost: $5.1 million
- Description of 2025 work: Reconstructing the existing roadway with new asphalt, making railroad crossing improvements, realigning the County C/W intersection and installing pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: County C is closed; a signed detour is in place.
US 2
- Location: Bong Bridge connecting Superior and Duluth, MN
- Schedule: August 6 to early December
- Cost: $6.38 million
- Description: Painting spot locations of the existing steel arch structure of the center span; making concrete surface repairs at spot locations of the two piers that support the center steel arch structure; removing and replacing three rubber strip seals of the center tied arch; replacing street lighting on the Minnesota half of the structure, including on the Minnesota ramps; replacing street lighting on the Wisconsin approach; applying a concrete sealer to the entire deck, including the Minnesota ramps; and placing new pavement markings on the entire bridge, Minnesota ramps and Wisconsin approach.
- Traffic impacts: US 2 remains open to traffic, but:
- The outside lane and shoulder are closed on eastbound US 2.
- The inside lane is closed on westbound US 2.
US 53
- Location: 2nd Avenue East to Hughitt Avenue in Superior
- Schedule: July 14 to mid-September
- Cost: $3.98 million
- Description: For the road rehabilitation project: Milling 1.5 inches off the roadway between Hughitt Avenue and the bridge over the railroad tracks and overlaying the driving lanes with a 1.5-inch layer of asphalt; milling the existing asphalt pavement down to the concrete pavement between the bridge over the railroad tracks and 2nd Avenue East, making spot repairs to the underlying concrete and then placing 3 inches of new asphalt pavement; making spot curb and gutter repairs; repairing various inlets and storm and sanitary sewer manholes; upgrading or installing curb ramps at pedestrian crossings. For the safety project: Closing the existing median on US 53 at E Street; adding new turn bays on US 53 to for motorists turning right onto E Street; widening Lenroot Drive, currently a one-way street, to accommodate two-lane, two-way traffic; making improvements at the intersection of Lenroot Drive and Winter Street; and milling the existing pavement on Lenroot Drive, Winter Street and East 1st Street and then overlaying the roads with asphalt.
- Traffic impacts: US 53 remains open to traffic, but motorists will encounter lane closures and a 10-foot width restriction.
Eau Claire County
Various
- Location: Multiple bus stops in the city of Eau Claire
- Schedule: August 18 to late September
- Cost: $262,881
- Description: Adding two concrete pads connecting sidewalk to back of curb and replacing existing sidewalk at multiple bus stop locations.
- Traffic impacts: At work sites, motorists will encounter shoulder closures, and pedestrians will encounter sidewalk closures.
- For the week of October 6, crews will:
- Continue work at Bellevue Avenue and Spring Street; Birch and Germania streets; Keystone Crossing and Bullis Farm Road; Craig Road at Oak Ridge Drive and the Marshfield Medical Center-Eau Claire entrance; Vine Street and 7th Street; El Dorado Boulevard and Imperial Circle; West MacArthur Avenue and Ruth Street; and Sunset Drive and Fairmont Avenue.
WIS 93
- Location: Cedar Road south of Eau Claire to the Trempealeau County line north of Eleva
- Schedule: May 19 to late September
- Cost: $7.7 million
- Description: Milling 3.25 inches of the existing asphalt surface and overlaying the road with 3.25 inches of new asphalt; replacing the Clear Creek Bridge and box culvert at Pine Creek with bridges; cleaning, replacing and resetting sections of existing culverts in the project limits; widening WIS 93’s paved shoulders to five feet; installing new pavement markings and shoulder rumble strips; adding asphaltic curbs/flumes to manage roadway runoff; and replacing or adjusting guardrail.
- Traffic impacts: None; project complete.
US 12
- Location: Industrial Drive in Altoona to the Fall Creek Bridge
- Schedule: August 11 to early November
- Cost: $4.48 million
- Description: Milling and resurfacing the existing pavement with new asphalt; widening paved shoulders from 3 feet to 5 feet; installing shoulder and centerline rumble strips to enhance driver safety; repairing or replacing aging culverts and cattle passes; upgrading guardrail throughout the project; improving drainage by grading ditches south of US 12 near Schultz Road and west of Oak Knoll Road; installing new pavement markings throughout the corridor; and clearing trees from a 500-foot segment between Voight and Oak Knoll roads.
- Traffic impacts: Motorists might encounter single-lane closures controlled by flagging, as well as rolling shoulder closures, as shoulder, guardrail and pavement marking work is completed.
I-94
- Location: US 53 interchange to Mallard Road southwest of Eau Claire
- Schedule: March 17 and mid-November, 2025 construction; and March 4, 2024 to November 2026, overall project
- Cost: $69.9 million
- Description of 2025 work: Replacing the pavement of westbound I-94 from Otter Creek to Mallard Road, the westbound bridges over County J and County D and the box culvert carrying Kluckman Valley Creek under westbound I-94 near County D.
- Traffic impacts: I-94 is open to traffic, but:
- Motorists will encounter single-lane closures during nonpeak travel hours and a 60-mph speed limit in both directions.
- The speed limit in both directions is 60 mph.
- County D is closed at I-94.
Jackson County
County N
- Location: County C to Rabbit Run Road
- Schedule: April 2 to mid-October
- Cost: $3.85 million
- Description: Replacing the pavement on an approximate 1.23-mile stretch; pulverizing and relaying the existing pavement on a 4.15-mile segment and placing new asphalt pavement; and replacing guardrail, pavement markings and signage.
- Traffic impacts: County N is closed in the project limits.
WIS 54
- Location: Wilson and Mill Creek bridges west of Melrose
- Schedule: June 23 to late November
- Cost: $2.79 million
- Description: Removing and replacing both bridges and replacing the pavement on both sides of each structure, guardrail and pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: WIS 54 is:
- Closed at Wilson Creek; traffic is being detoured via US 53/WIS 93, I-90, WIS 16, WIS 108 and WIS 71.
- Open at Mill Creek through use of a temporary bypass controlled by temporary traffic signals.
I-94
- Location: Bridges over the Black River in the city of Black River Falls and the Union Pacific railroad tracks in the town of Brockway
- Schedule: February 24 to late May, bridge construction, and September 9 to mid-October, crossover removal, 2025 construction; and September 5, 2023 to October 2025, overall project
- Cost: $5.2 million
- Description of 2025 work: Overlaying the eastbound bridge decks with concrete; repainting each structure’s girders; replacing their expansion joints, wing walls, approach pavement and guardrail; placing new pavement markings; and removing median crossovers.
- Traffic impacts: Motorists will encounter inside lane closures in both directions Monday mornings through noon on Fridays as crossovers near both bridges are removed.
- The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph in the work zone.
Pepin County
County PP
- Location: South county line to V Schuh Lane south of Durand
- Schedule: July 21 to early October
- Cost: $1.13 million
- Description: Replacing the asphalt pavement, realigning a segment of the highway, replacing cross culverts and guardrail, improving shoulders and placing pavement markings and signage.
- Traffic impacts: The road is closed between the project limits.
WIS 35
- Location: Walnut Street in Stockholm to the Pierce County line
- Schedule: August 25 to early November
- Cost: $4.28 million
- Description: Removing 2.25 inches of existing pavement, paving 3.75 inches of new asphalt pavement, completing culvert work, replacing guardrail and placing new pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: Motorists will encounter daytime lane closures controlled by flagging and possible shoulder closures.
Pierce County
1005th Street
- Location: Wind River Bridge in the town of Diamond Bluff southeast of Prescott
- Schedule: September 16 to mid-November
- Cost: $540,271
- Description: Replacing the bridge, realigning the stream, placing riprap and completing approach work, including asphalt paving.
- Traffic Impacts: The road is closed on each end at WIS 35.
County U
- Location: County CC to 145th Avenue south of Plum City

- Description: Pulverizing and relaying the existing pavement, placing new asphalt pavement, adjusting guardrail and placing new pavement markings.
- Traffic Impacts: Motorists will encounter lane closures controlled by flagging.
US 63
- Location: US 10 east of Ellsworth to WIS 29 East
- Schedule: May 5 to early October
- Cost: $8.5 million
- Description: Removing 1.25 inches of the existing pavement and place 3.25 inches of new asphalt pavement; replacing the decks on the bridges carrying US 63 over the south fork of Lost Creek, Lost Creek and a branch of the Rush River; replacing culverts, gravel shoulders and guardrail; cleaning ditches; and placing new pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: Motorists will encounter daytime single-lane closures controlled by flagging as finishing work is completed early next week.
Polk County
3rd Avenue
- Location: Ash Street to Oak Street in Frederic
- Schedule: September 23 to mid-November
- Cost: $584,100
- Description: Reconstructing the road, making storm sewer upgrades, completing curb, gutter and sidewalk work and replacing pavement markings and signage.
- Traffic Impacts: The road is closed to through traffic.
St. Croix County
WIS 35
- Location: South of I-94 between Stageline Road and Hanley Road/High Ridge Drive in Hudson
- Schedule: August 20 to mid-September
- Cost: $3.57 million
- Description: Extending an existing noise wall on the west side of WIS 35 south of the existing noise wall between the highway and Heritage Boulevard and adding two noise walls on the east side of WIS 35 - one southwest of Meadows Park and northwest of the Canary Way cul-de-sac and the other between the highway and Meadowlark Drive and Meadowlark Lane.
- Traffic impacts: Motorists will encounter the following impacts:
- The right lane and shoulder are closed on northbound WIS 35 from the on-ramp from the Hanley Road/High Ridge Drive overpass to the exit direction signs until 6 tonight and from 7 a.m. Monday, October 6 until 6 p.m. Friday, October 10.
- The right lane and shoulder will be closed on southbound WIS 35 from near the Stageline Road overpass to the Hanley Road/High Ridge Drive overpass until 6 tonight and from 7 a.m. Monday, October 6 to 6 p.m. Friday, October 10.
- The auxiliary turn lanes from High Ridge Drive to the ramp to northbound WIS 35 and the ramp from southbound WIS 35 to Hanley Road are closed.
US 63
- Location: Bridge carrying a branch of the Willow River east of New Richmond
- Schedule: August 25 to late October
- Cost: $442,677
- Description: Replacing the bridge deck, repairing spalling on bridge abutments and exposed rebar on girders, replacing concrete approach slabs and up to 50 feet of the approaching road on both sides of the bridge, reinstalling guardrail and replacing pavement markings.
- Traffic Impacts: US 63 is closed on both sides of the bridge.
- Traffic is being detoured via US 63, WIS 46 and US 8.
I-94
- Location: Bridges over Kinney Road and 100th Street between Roberts and Hudson
- Schedule: March 17 to mid-October, 2025 construction; and September 9, 2024 to mid-October 2026, overall project
- Cost: $20.08 million
- Description of 2025 work: Removing and replacing the westbound bridges and 1,000 to 1,200 feet of the I-94 pavement on both sides of structures in both directions; installing storm sewer; and replacing guardrail and pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: I-94 remains open to traffic, but:
- The speed limit on westbound I-94 is reduced to 60 mph near the 100th Street and Kinney Road bridges.
- Motorists will encounter nightly lane closures on westbound I-94 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the week of October 6.
- Motorists also will encounter intermittent lane closures on eastbound I-94 the week of October 6.
I-94
- Location: St. Croix River bridges between Hudson and Lakeland, Minn.
- Schedule: September 29 to late October, 2025 construction; and spring to fall 2026, overall project
- Cost: $9.85 million
- Description of 2025 work: Completing prep work, including widening shoulders, for 2026 construction.
- Traffic impacts: Between the St. Croix River bridges to just west of the Carmichael Road interchange at exit 2, motorists will encounter:
- A single-lane closure on eastbound I-94 from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday the week of October 6
- A continuous single-lane closure on westbound I-94 through the week of October 6
Sawyer County
County B
- Location: 2nd Street to West Chippewa Trail
- Schedule: August 8 to early October
- Cost: $807,337
- Description: Removing a portion of the existing pavement, placing new asphalt pavement, replacing concrete curb and gutter at spot locations, improving curb ramps and installing new pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: None.
County CC
- Location: Bridge over the Chippewa Flowage southwest of New Post
- Schedule: September 8 to early November
- Cost: $613,953
- Description: Replacing the bridge deck, making abutment repairs, replacing approach pavement, placing riprap and replacing guardrail.
- Traffic Impacts: The road is closed at the bridge.
Taylor County
9th Street
- Location: Eastview Drive to East Broadway Avenue in Medford
- Schedule: August 25 to mid-October
- Cost: $292,455
- Description: Pulverizing the existing pavement, removing 4 inches of ground material, paving 4 inches of new asphalt and replacing curb and gutter.
- Traffic Impacts: The road is closed in the project limits.
Elm Avenue and Robin Drive
- Location: Deer Creek culverts on Elm Avenue and Robin Drive and West Branch Big Eau Pleine River Bridge on Elm, all southeast of Stetsonville
- Schedule: May 27 to mid-November
- Cost: $1.75 million
- Description: At Deer Creek culverts on Elm Avenue and Robin Drive: Removing the culvert pipes, replacing them with bridges, reconstructing 50 feet of roadway on both sides of the new structures, completing grading and placing riprap between the abutments and stream edges. In addition, realigning the stream at Deer Creek on Robin Drive. At West Branch Big Eau Pleine River: Replacing the existing bridge and reconstructing 100 feet of approach roadway.
- Traffic impacts: Elm Avenue is closed.
Grahl Drive
- Location: East branch of Little Black River Bridge northeast of Medford
- Schedule: September 22 to early November
- Cost: $430,239
- Description: Replacing the bridge and reconstructing 228.5 feet of approach pavement.
- Traffic Impacts: The road is closed at the bridge.
State Road
- Location: Little Rib River Bridge in village of Rib Lake
- Schedule: August 7 to early October
- Cost: $602,613
- Description: Replacing the bridge and approach pavement.
- Traffic impacts: The road is closed.
County A
- Location: Pine Creek Bridge southwest of Medford
- Schedule: September 18 to late November
- Cost: $658,724
- Description: Replacing the bridge and approaching pavement.
- Traffic Impacts: The road is closed between Oak and Wren drives.
Trempealeau County
US 10
- Location: Nelson Road to I-94 westbound ramps in Osseo
- Schedule: April 14 to late October
- Cost: $5.78 million
- Description: Removing the pavement from east of the Buffalo River State Park Trail to just west of Rose Lane and placing 8.5 inches of concrete pavement along with six inches of underlying base aggregate; repairing or replacing existing concrete pavement near I-94 at spot locations; making repairs to the US bridge over I-94; making concrete surface repairs on the bridge over the north fork of the Buffalo River and overlaying the deck with concrete; replacing storm sewer, sanitary sewer and water main; and replacing sidewalk, curb ramps, curb and gutter and pavement markings.
- Traffic impacts: US 10 reopened to traffic this afternoon between Rose Lane and US 53 South. US 10 remains closed from Field Street to County K.
- Through traffic on US 10 is being detoured via US 53, County HH and I-94.
- Through traffic on US 53, where it runs concurrent with US 10 between its northern and southern legs, is being detoured via WIS 121, County HH and I-94.
- Access is being maintained to businesses and residences in the work zone.
- Motorists on westbound I-94 will encounter lane closures as repairs are made to the bridge carrying US 10 over the interstate.
Washburn County
County K
- Location: US 63 in the city of Spooner to Sunset Lane
- Schedule: June 2 to late August
- Cost: $2.01 million
- Description: From US 63 to division Street: Removing and replacing the existing pavement and base course, replacing curb and gutter, making spot sanitary sewer improvements, completing storm sewer repairs and placing new pavement markings and signage. From division Street to Sunset Lane: Pulverizing the existing pavement and repaving it.
- Traffic impacts: County K is open to traffic, but work is expected to be completed by early next week.
Regionwide Pavement Marking Project
Various
- Location: In Northwest Region: Barron, Bayfield, Buffalo, Clark, Dunn, Jackson, Pierce, St. Croix, Sawyer, Polk, Trempealeau and Washburn counties. In Southwest Region: Juneau and Monroe counties
- Schedule: April 28 to mid-October
- Cost: $1.97 million
- Description: Replacing epoxy centerlines, edge lines and special markings.
- Traffic impacts: Motorists will encounter moving lane closures or traffic diversions where crews are working. For the coming week, crews are anticipated to:
- Complete work on a segment of I-94 in St. Croix County
- Complete work on segments of US 63 in Bayfield, Sawyer and Washburn counties
- Begin and complete work on a segment of US 8 in Polk county
