WIS 29/County VV interchange construction complete in Brown County

Two-year project finishes on time and on budget

Release Date: October 18, 2022

(Green Bay) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region announces completion of all major construction on the WIS 29/County VV interchange and local roads improvement project in Brown County. The project began May 3, 2021, and finishes on time and on budget. Minor finishing work, traffic control removal and site cleanup may occur through October 24. This will not impact state highway traffic.

The project constructed a new diamond interchange at WIS 29 and County VV in the villages of Hobart and Howard and Oneida Nation Reservation. Local road improvements included realignment of Milltown Road, a new connection from County VV to North Overland Road, and installation of broadband. Detailed project scope can be viewed on the WIS 29/County VV Project website.

The project improved safety, mobility and efficiency by addressing roadway and safety issues resulting from travel speeds and at-grade access points in the area. The new interchange and local connections also improved freight movement for area businesses and increased accessibility for multimodal forms of transportation. A 12-mile fiber optic utility extension brought Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to the WIS 29 and County VV interchange. The new utility also allows connections for public schools, public emergency notification systems, as well as local businesses and residents.

The $25.4 million project was funded via a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grant awarded to Brown County and the villages of Howard and Hobart. WisDOT oversaw construction of the diamond interchange. For detailed funding information, please see the project website.

WisDOT, FHWA, Brown County, the villages of Hobart and Howard, and the Oneida Nation held a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Sept. 28 to celebrate completion of the project. Hoffman Construction of Black River Falls. Wis. was the Prime Contractor.
