WisDOT holding meeting on WIS 70 improvement project

Work includes completing culvert work, widening paved shoulders, adding centerline and shoulder rumble strips

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is holding a public involvement meeting to share details about an upcoming improvement project in Washburn County on WIS 70 from the Burnett County line to 1,350 feet west of 1st Street in Spooner and obtain public input.

The existing pavement on this segment of WIS 70 is showing signs of deterioration. To address this and other issues, WisDOT is proposing:

During construction, WIS 70 will be closed to through traffic during culvert replacements, and traffic will be detoured via County O, County B and US 63. During paving and other work, motorists will encounter lane closures controlled by flagging operations.

Construction currently is scheduled for 2027.

For those who can’t attend the meeting, materials are posted on the project’s website. Public comments on the proposed project are being accepted through December 5.
