Proposed work in Cameron includes replacing storm sewer and traffic signals and installing a two-way left-turn lane
Release date: November 25, 2025
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is holding a public involvement meeting to share details about an upcoming pavement replacement project on US 8 between County SS South and 480 feet east of County SS North in the Barron County village of Cameron.
-
When: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 3
- A brief presentation is planned at 5:45 p.m.
-
Where: Mosaic Technologies, Mosaic Conference Room, 401 S. 1st St., Cameron
The existing pavement on this segment of US 8 is nearing the end of its service life. To address that and other issues, WisDOT is proposing:
- Reconstructing US 8 within the project limits with concrete pavement
- Replacing storm sewer
- Replacing curb and gutter to improve drainage
- Replacing curb ramps at designated sidewalk crossings to meet current Americans With Disabilities Act standards
- Adding some new sidewalk
- Installing a two-way left-turn lane (TWLTL) from Sunnyside Avenue to the intersection with County W
- A TWLTL is a lane between opposing lanes of traffic for the purpose of allowing vehicles from either direction to make left turns.
- Replacing traffic signals at the intersection of US 8/County W/County SS
In addition, the village plans to replace sanitary sewer, water mainlines and services as part of the project, and the railroad plans to replace the crossing surface and signals at the railroad crossing north of the intersection of US 8/County W/County SS and add a 100-foot concrete median.
During construction, US 8 will be closed, with through traffic detoured. The work at the US 8, County W and County SS intersection will be staged to maintain traffic.
Construction is scheduled for 2029.
WisDOT is seeking public input on the proposed project through Dec. 18. More information and a comment form can be found on the project
website.
