Location

US 8, Peshtigo River Bridge to Marinette County Line, Forest County

Project Overview

We are proposing to improve 10.8 miles of US 8.

Proposed improvements include:

  • Milling the surface layer of existing asphalt and overlaying it with new asphalt.
  • Widening the paved portion of the shoulders from 3 feet to 5 feet through the town of Armstrong Creek.
  • Installing new pavement markings and adding centerline rumble strips.
  • Replacing the epoxy ATV/snowmobile crossing approximately 400 feet east of WIS 139.
  • Replacing deteriorating culverts throughout the project limits including the large steel pipe under US 8 at Armstrong Creek with a concrete box culvert.
  • Flattening the side slopes and removing the cable guard between Cemetary Road/Chitko Road and County Line Road.
  • Replacing the curb and gutter west of WIS 101 and at the following intersections:
    • WIS 139
    • Ross Lake Road
    • Browns Road
    • Newald Tower Road
    • Ziolkowski Road
    • Danielczak Road
    • WIS 101/Old 101 Road (south side only)

Traffic Impacts

During construction, the roadway will be open under staged traffic lane shifts and single-lane closures with flaggers. Work to replace the large culvert at Armstrong Creek will be completed using temporary signals. Local, business and emergency access will be maintained. However, temporary driveway closures will be necessary during parts of the construction process. WisDOT will contact homeowners and businesses in advance before closing a driveway.
